If the club then uses that product or service to provide a service or product to its own customers, it then in turn has to charge VAT on that product or service and remit it to HMRC? But it would be entitled to claim a refund from HMRC on the VAT paid in respect of the service that was provided to the club? But that means there is a period where HMRC is effectively in debt to the club (what Graham might mean when he refers to paying twice), which is a bit inconvenient if you have cash flow issues?
Sell to who, Billy? (obviously “anyone” is not the correct answer)

It is a crazy Tax that was obligatory on all Countries that were in the European Economic Community (Common Market) now known as the European Union. The UK joined the EEC on 1st January 1973 and V.A.T. was introduced here on 1st April 1973. Before that date the UK used Purchase Tax etc
Now we have left the EU in theory we could abolish V.A.T. but the Treasury loves to milk the public and they don't have to do much in the way of administration or checks other than looking for fraud. There used to be a local V.A.T. Office but that closed many years ago along with most other towns. If V.A.T. was abolished then it would have to be replaced with another Tax and that might be even worse !

Let's trust the powers that be ( possibly those external to the club) to resolve any issues that they deem necessary to place this embargo on our club.
By the sounds of it and the way that some more in tune with VAT have explained the workings of HMRC then we as fans need not get hot under the collar and wait for everything to return to normal in due course.

Which is all very well RR except for the embargo that we are now under!

Hopefully the statement giving us the current situation will be issued by our General Manager and not the somewhat flippant statement issued recently by one of our Co Chairmen.
A statement of the actual facts about the conditions of the embargo are needed as a number of contradicting posts have put differing opinions on the subject.
Quite simply WE AS PAYING FANS need to know the true implications for OUR club.

I'm sure the majority of fans would welcome an update from Ben or a Co Chairman so that those wanting to purchase a Season Ticket can do so with confidence that we will have a competitive team for next season.

Don't hold your breath !

If he doesn’t pay the recent fine do the Club take another points hit? Would the league finally realise he is not a fit and proper person to own a football club and do the right thing by appointing administrators?
(unfortunately the bar set for ownership is very low, so probably not).
Would Jason prove me wrong and sell at a lower price? (Not looking likely).
Run the Club further down and declare himself bankrupt? (The club put in administration and assets sold off, new buyers sought and Jason after a period of time (a year?) relived of his debts).
Or just keep us as the owner and lend the Club money at high interest to make some spending money for himself.
After what happened at Worcester Warriors, surely he will not be fazed by what is happening at Morecambe FC or that he has to declare himself bankrupt.
As we cannot afford to buy anyone I don’t think the embargo affects us to much, except who would want to sign for us?
