People who do it professionally usually charge an arm and a leg.
You could try somewhere like Black Box to see if they do, or know anyone.
You could have a go yourself, http://www.datadoctor.in/
I recovered someone's Wembley photos from an accidentally formatted flash card using Sandisk recovery software. I also recovered about 95% of a card that I'd formatted intentionally, to see if it worked. It 'can' work on hard drives, although I haven't tried it on one. It was distributed free with memory cards, so if you need a big card, you may find it worth buying a card to get the software?

So how did that work out then?

NOOOOOOOOO!!!!!!!

I've had two nightmares with Black Box over ACER laptops that have failed just over a year outside the warranty. In both cases it turns out they had no licences for the operating system (no Microsoft licence on the computer itself) and couldn't or wouldn't re-install them. I wouldn't touch them with a bargepole now.

The one I can recommend is Mike Dent http://www.ubertechs.co.uk/about. He'll come down and collect and did a fantastic job of recovering data from both those lappies that failed.

Not sure if Mattick Computers are still going on Yorkshire Street (their website is down) but they've done a great job for our company on upgrading PCs.
