OFF TOPIC - LOCAL POLITICS - You Have Been Warned!

Geraldine Smith is an uninformed publicity hound. She'll support anything that the most vociferous (which is often a minority...he who shouts loudest etc) group of the moment supports (bet she wants the dome!). Prime example is her congruence with the NIMBYS on the bypass stance, which is to the detriment of the area as a whole. What she stands for can be canvassed by reading prominent points of the day in the press. This way, she'll always keep her seat.

I think it is time we go behind Coun Archer as a community and curb this silly political back stabbing.

Dame Archer was elected with an election promise to push for a bypass. The MBIs en masse voted against it. When faced with direct questions about her decisions, she turned her back and ignored me. I'm fed up of pro-MBIs coming on the forum and pushing how good she is yet completely ignoring the opportunity to correct anything I have said. They claim to put people before politics. What a load of bollocks.

I suspect she won't this time.

I for one hope she doesn't keep her seat. She makes a big play being a 'local MP' who would never consider a place in government yet, apart from her response to the Cockle tragedy, everything else she has done or supported when it comes to the area has been barking up the wrong tree. She campaigned for an illegal Western Bypass, she supports the completely ineffective and utterly useless MBIs just because they are 'supposed' to represent Morecambrians and she jumps on every bandwagan going. She's also one of Gordon Brown's biggest supporters. If that isn't a good enough reason to keep her out, I don't know what is.

It never ceases to amaze me the people who take the time and trouble to dip into a political thread to say it shouldn't be on the forum. Maybe I didn't make the words OFF TOPIC large enough so they knew to stay away

As Mark pointed out earlier, it's a General Discussion forum, What It Says On The Tin ;)

Anything local is always interesting.
But when it gets to the point of basically bullying then there isn't much point in contributing.

Good luck to all the candidates who are standing, if they are willing to do something for there community free of charge, they do not get paid any allowance for it then fair play to them, but people who are standing just to wreck it should be ashamed of themselves.
It been voted in by council whether we like it or not its there

You have contributed therefore there's no bullying in this thread

All I want are some answers from elected officers who claim to put the people first. The parish council elections will be interesting, I think there is a real trend away from the usual parties. Something the Labour, sorry, Resident First party are tapping into.

Like what for example, slashing playground maintenance budgets, getting rid of summer activities for the children of the district, slashing funding for Citizen's Advice Bureaus at a time when people need it most, cut local services by over £1.4 million with more to come, increased council tax in Morecambe by over 5%?

As for the previous regimes they were appalling! They did stupid things like build the splash park in HMP, new toilets, completed the sea wall project, delivered new playgrounds on the prom, got the finance together to re-open the Midland Hotel, balanced the budget, kept council tax increases under 5% each year without making cuts. Absolutely appalling.

Jumping Jack Flash you're entitled to your opinion

That's absolutely disgraceful. Maybe we should get them back to see if they can do better this time?

I a going to start a Facebook group called Evelyn Archer as Mayor of Morecambe. At the end of the day she deserves the recognition for the good she has done the people of Morecambe. I bet on my own life that I will get over 300 members as opposed to the anti Town Council group that contains the usual suspects and has beens you sad lot.

I have been informed that the New Town Council will be a start of a new journer towards Morecambe becoming Independent of Lancaster with a view to establishing its own Council.
A welcome retutn to the glory days is upon us. What we need though is for the Morecmabe Bay Independent Party to gain all the seats on the Town Council and to follow on with us gaining and holding every seat in the 2011 local elections--I am looking forward to that triumph.
Please keep a watch out for the new facebook group

I can almost understand Lib Dem Alistair Carmichael being in third when you consider he represents Shetland & Orkney!! Given The Telegraph is a Tory paper I won't give them much credence but it's worth pointing out that Philip Hollobone (Tory MP for Kettering) is the exception rather than the rule. I seem to recall he doesn't employ any researchers, nor does he have a secretary. Of course, I bet The Torygraph didn't make a big play of the fact 3 of the top 5 frugal MPs are of the Labour persuasion (one of whom is as left-wing as they get, Dennis Skinner).

bigreddog wrote:According to the Sunday Telegraph and Bloomberg, that's not right. They recon the expenses were: £152,251 for Wallace and £148,849 for Smith.

Those were the figures for 2006/2007. Somehow they managed to spend an extra £47,000 between them in 2007/2008!

In the interests of balance it should be stated that Mr Wallace's expenses included an additional amount of £9,512 in respect of Maternity Cover. Without this Mr Wallace's total expenses would have been less than Miss Smiths although both would still be grossly extravagant.

Grossly extravagant  , don't make me laugh,
these two amateurs couldn't run up a bill to save their lives,
I could show them a thing or two, and as an accountant I'm sure you could too.
