Current Squad 23/24

Yes please to Niasse. He could end up being more of a squad player but he’d add some attributes that we currently lack up top.

I like Caleb Watts but don’t see attacking midfield as a priority.

I feel before (if) we sign another forward. A centre half should be the priority.

I reckon we're fine there if I'm honest. Rawson and Bedeau as the starters, Songo'o and Stokes (seems to have definitely been signed as a CB, not a LB) as the back-up. Good set of options, and now we've got cover for defensive midfield with King if Songo'o has to drop back to replace Rawson if injured/suspended.

Left back the priority, but definitely need a bit more depth up top as well. The back-up for our current front three is basically just Brown and Slew. Another centre forward (I'd be fine with Niasse) and a winger very much needed as well.

The lack of a number 3 in our issued squad numbers suggests Derek is lining a left back up from somewhere.

An experienced striker would be ideal IMHO , we have lots of youth up top and ideally a big striker/targetman would cover another base.

Derek does sometimes play three at the back so potentially we could have Bedeau, Rawson and Stokes all starting with no cover other than Songo - who isn’t really a centre back - so I do agree that we are short there but I think we just have to accept that as being part of having such a small squad.

I have to admit I'm not a fan of Love at full back BUT when he's played in the centre of midfield as a defensive unit he's excelled and surprised me. Maybe DA sees Love in that role going forward which would then mean Senior who was excellent for Carlisle in his natural right sided defender position.

Having Love as cover for Yan or even as first choice provides much needed cover in that central midfield defensive position something that we needed last season.

His Wiki page says he was offered a new contract. So if we haven't signed him on loan, it's a great piece of work by the recruitment team.

I can't remember which game it was, last season, where Love was played in the central defensive midfield, and he was superb. I thought he'd get more time there, so perhaps now?

Senior is a right sides defender and has to date played out of position. With the new lad having signed for us as he wants first team football maybe DA sees him in the left position, Senior on the right and Love in the middle in place of Yan.... :?: :?: :?:

The new lad has obviously signed with some guarantee that he will play( :?: ) so will be interesting on Tuesday to see who plays where.

For me, the new lad goes straight in at left back and Senior plays right back.

I've been wondering, for some time now, if there's a contract clause as to how much game time he has to be given. That might explain why Derek prefers him; or maybe Derek does prefer him?

2 more needed as an absolute minimum in my opinion. They could yet surprise us but it's hard to view the 2 youth lads as genuine options. They may play a bit of the pizza cup but can't see any meaningful impact from them past that.

I wonder if our scouts have seen James Bailey , striker at Kendal Town.

Already has 2 hat-tricks and 14 goals in total to his name so far this season.

OK the level he is playing at is low but strikers have a nose for goals and for getting in the right place to score so maybe worth a punt.

Certainly worth at the very least a trial with a contract for the season if he shows well in training.

Sometimes a punt on someone like him can be financially rewarding.

Problem is I doubt if DA or GS are aware of him..... :?: :?: :?:

Someone for the future..... :?: :?: :?:

We still need some experience up front but time is running out although we could still sign an unattached player BUT they would be seriously lacking in match fitness.

Just hope that DA and GS can / have someone lined up ....BUT it's getting late in the window only circa 50 hours left before the window closes.

Not necessarily a panic. Someone like Niasse is without a club, so can be signed out of the window, as they are clubless. Could prove to be a positive.

Why wouldn't DA or GS be aware of him? I suspect their fingers are on the pulse a lot more than ours!

The real problem is, we have no cash. I can't see us paying a transfer fee for anyone at the moment.
