Cole to Burton Albion along with Barrow's top scorer

Disappointing if true :?: :?: :?: as I seriously wanted Cole to stay with us despite last season's below par performances
that along with a very poor defense saw us relegated although for me it was mainly our defense that saw us now in EFL2.

Hope any deal with Burton falls through.....

Alan Nixon is a mouth-piece for agents. He has however been correct on most things Cole Stockton to date, so can't really dismiss this as being a made-up rumour.

IF true - a good move I think for Burton Albion and Cole.... on his day and in a confident move, one of the better strikers in League One capable of scoring spectacular goals, and difficult for any team to handle. Cole deserves to be playing at that level - he has already proven this.

The Brewers are a progressive club.... but there isn't huge expectation and/or pressure vs somewhere like Derby County. I think this will suit Cole; who has struggled for form whilst plying his trade anywhere other than Morecambe FC. I don't think there was much chance of us retaining his services TBH, even if we had stayed up given the ongoing farcical ownership situation.

Some people seem to have it in for Cole due to the transfer request and dip in form at the start of last season - but I wish him nothing but the very best; he has given us moments that will live long in the memory, and helped elevate us to a level I never thought I'd see Morecambe play at.

Not really , if he hadn’t sulked for the best part of the season we might have still been playing against Burton next season . Good bye Cole and good luck !

Really disappointed that it's Burton who could be in a relegation fight this coming season.

Have a feeling we'll be up against Cole in season 24/25.... ;)

However he's gone so I wish him well BUT WE NEED SOME NEWS ABOUT NEW PLAYERS AT OUR CLUB PDQ>..

Will be interesting to see which of these strikers plays the most games OR will it be playing both... :?:

Cole's certainly going to have competition that's for sure.

Agreed. If Cole had kept his head down and applied himself last season, he’d have departed Morecambe FC as a club legend, and probably would have got a better move too.

Anyway, no grudges - good luck Cole.

Who says we haven`t signed any new players already

Maybe the club are just keeping it quiet till they are back in training

Can't see the reason for doing that. I should imagine t's more likely that they are on the verge of signing someone (single or plural) and don't want the risk of another club coming in and pinching them at the last minute.

"Start of last season" lasted until after Christmas. If he hadn't got a sick note, then spent months wandering aimlessly around the pitch, we'd have still been a League One club. A huge amount of our relegation is his responsibility.

If he'd knuckled down, then left on a free at the end of the season, he'd have left us a hero. As it is, he only started to play when he realised he needed a club at the end of the season. I don't wish him any ill, but I really don't care if he's a success or failure.

So how did that work out then?

The odd game here and there aside, Stockton was very poor all season up until the 90th minute against Wycombe. And for the most part in that game he'd been poor as well!

We didn't really get relegated on the final day at Exeter. That run we had at the end of the season was extraordinary. We got relegated from poor results all season, and Stockton was a factor in that. It really is such a shame as that aside, there's a good case for him being our greatest ever striker.

It's done now and there's no point in harbouring bad feelings, and it can't be forgotten some of the amazing moments he's helped give us. League One looks a bit weaker this season so there's probably room for a bottom half side or two to push on up the table. Burton wouldn't be top of my list but it wouldn't completely surprise me if they had a good crack.

I've always wondered why we never seem to do as well as Burton. Their crowds are actually smaller than ours, stadium very similar (although they made a better job of theirs) yet they somehow manage to hold their own very well. What is the secret to their success, I'm not sure who owns Burton do they have an owner who invests a lot?

They have normal ownership. That's the reason.

I think a lot of it is down to being in a catchment area that attracts more players due to their location than we do ie the midlands.

I'm sure that many mistakenly regard Morecambe as being simply too far to travel on a daily basis for training etc ( although the estimated travel time for Cole to Burton is more than it was to ourselves as per the details below ) plus we are not blessed with the finances to pay for a better standard of player.

However a number of Burton fans on their forum commenting about their recent twin signings of proven strikers suggest that their budget is one of the lowest in the league so it must be down to where Burton is..... :?: :?: :?:

Cole must have been offered significantly more money than what we may have offered because his travelling time for his home on Merseyside :?: to Burton is estimated to be 2 hours (84 miles)whilst his travel time to ourselves was circa 1hour 23 minutes (72 miles) M6 almost the entire journey.
