O/T Accy Stanley playing staff

I can't understand how a club with considerably smaller gates than ourselves can support a playing staff of 34 players PLUS back room and admin staff.

17 are on contract for next season with the remainder either offered new terms or released.

Their wage bill must be considerably larger than ours and it sounds as though it is being totally funded by their owner who to date has not failed to pay wages on time....yet :!: :!: :!:

You sort of answered your own question - Andy Holt bankrolls the club through a combination of direct funding and commercially uncompetitive sponsorship deals through his other business interests. Without him, Accrington would struggle to retain league status if they had to cut their cloth accordingly. This was the case before his arrival, when Stanley were routinely no strangers to financial difficulties of their own. It will be the case if/when he leaves. I actually read recently that some Stanley fans have questioned his logic investing into the ground/facilities rather than the first team which is struggling this season. It was quite amusing - there is only one difference between Stanley and Southport, and it isn't the Birkdale Dunes.

Accrington have built a Sports Bar (called Coleys !) which is open every day of the week and also takes serious money on match days. Andy Holt publishes matchday revenue returns on his Twitter account and it is very interesting.

I think we tried opening The Globe Grill (very commercial name ....not !!) when we moved there but it wasn't a roaring success , maybe the Wild Boar Burgers didn't take off. I think they could try something on the evenings when football is on T.V. either European games or Premier/EFL games with discounted drinks and pies available but everything seems to be in limbo until the club is sold.

I think they also made a mess, right from the start, by having MotM presentation in the Wright & Lord suite, not being inclusive to the rest of the fans. In the early days, W&L would still be quite busy, but the last time I saw a MotM presentation, there were about twenty people there, and they all left as soon as the presentation was made. I'd have two 'happy hours', the first, directly after the game, in JB's, then the second starting half an hour later, in the W&L Suite. That would give half an hour for people to leave, if they want to, (avoiding too many people heading in opposite directions on the stair case) but then encourage fans to come up to the W&L in time for the presentation. Have a local (cheap!) band play if there isn't a Premier League match on, or whatever, so people have a reason to stay behind longer.

So how did that work out then?

In theory, yes, but with the William Mitchell and Hurley Flyer in the same area, and all the other bars in Morecambe, there simply may not be the punters.

I think the more important income stream is the W&L and boxes which should be used a lot more during the day and weekday evenings. There's certainly scope for a lot more use for events, meetings, conferences, training courses, etc.

Agreed , in a perfect world Morecambe FC would have built a pub/fans bar where the Hurley Flyer is but finances dictated the land had to be sold to Marstons.
