1 in 2 chance of staying up!

1 in 2 chance of staying up!

Postby Keith » Tue Apr 11, 2023 5:39 pm

What's the round before the quarter-finals called?

If we're accepting we pretty much have to win the remaining games to have a chance of staying up, it's like being in the last 32 of a cup competition.

We've been 'drawn' at home to Wycombe on Saturday.
If we win, we're in the quarter-final, away at Charlton.
Beat them, and it is a semi-final, at home to Lincoln.
If we're still in it, then comes a huge final, away at Exeter.

Any draws, will be like losing on penalties!

Okay, not scientific and there may be a few more variables, but if this was a 'last 32' of a cup, and that was our 'road to the final', we'd be thinking, 'we might just do this', so come on lads, a win on Saturday and get this 'cup run' going! 8-) 8-) 8-)

At this stage you just hope we go into our last home game with something to play for. Even better, Exeter away on the last game of the season. No point though thinking too far ahead. Lets just try everything to beat Wycombe.

When do the other teams play their games in hand? That could end any hope that people are clinging to.

Pretty sure there won't be points deduction for the first occurrence, it has happened at other clubs, that weren't deducted points.

Hope you're right. It would be a pretty rotten way of being relegated

To have any chance at all of staying up with 3 games left is amazing and should be applauded with everything that has gone on this season.

Still in with a chance. Can't see it actually happening, but there is still hope.

Sounds simple....but away form has been terrible. However now is the time for another DA inspired miracle.

Whatever happens we will still have memories and be an EFL club in season 23 / 24.

Keith's analogy of being in the quarter finals of the cup is a good one. Unlike some of the other teams around us there are no options for us so we have no need to over think it. Just concentrate on beating Charlton to get to the semis. Pressure on other teams will really begin to mount then.

Bizarre that even though it still isn't in our own hands, I'm feeling pretty confident. 'Semi-final', beat Lincoln and then that huge final v Exeter.

We could win both and still not get the cup, but we're still in it!

Semi-final day is here!

One from Milton Keynes, Morecambe, Accrington or Cambridge to win the prize of League One next season.

If you were a fan of the other clubs, who would be feeling most confident? It is all in Cambridge's hands. If they win all three games, they stay up. On paper, they have the easiest run in, Accrington, Burton & Forest Green. But, three games in a week and must win them all. They've not won three on the trot all season, now they have to win three in eight days. Two wins and a draw would probably be enough.

Milton Keynes should be favourite, as they aren't in the relegation zone. But, Barnsley & Burton are two tough games. A win and a draw will be enough, but they are bang out of form at just the wrong time.

Accrington should be least likely to pull off an amazing escape. If we win our two matches, they need to win theirs by six goals more than us. Their game today, against Cambridge will almost certainly see one of them relegated, realistically, if not mathematically.

And then there is us.

I know, we just need to concentrate on getting the job done today and next Saturday, but I'm sure most people at the game today will be keeping half an eye on scores elsewhere!

Ideal outcome...

Morecambe win.
Barnsley win.
Accrington win.

COME ON YOU SHRIMPS!!!

Not the ideal outcome then Keith but it's now between MKD, Cambridge and us. We need Burton to take points off one of our rivals (preferably both)!

Seemed a bit far fetched when originally posted but here we are in the 'final'. I know we have to win and rely on Burton to do us a two favours but hats off to Derek and and the lads for getting us this far.
