Despite being the scapegoat for many, I'd like us to keep Love, although not as captain. I still prefer Cooney, as I think he's a better crosser, so keep both of them. Not sure whether Gibson has another year? If not, definitely keep him.
Basically, I think the bulk of this squad would make a decent League Two side. As we found when we went up, there was a huge jump in quality, so presumably, we'd find the same going back down?

Such a vital area for any team it has been a major reason why Cole has underachieved. He's missed our playmakers of last season and we have not replaced them like for like and DA has to take some of the blame for that.

I thought Love had a pretty decent game yesterday against a good side.
He hit a great shot 2nd half that just went wide.
He has 1 year left on his contract and Cooney is out of contract. Therefore I can see Cooney leaving and a possible destination could be the Crown Ground.

For the last couple of Summers, we've had far too much movement of players, inevitably, but too much change isn't good at all. I long for the days of a bit of consistency and settled players like in the days of Flemmo, Ellison, Kenyon, Wildig, Roche, Drummond, Parrish, etc., where we had a generally settled spine of players who were with us seemingly forever which provided experience and consistency, mixed in with others who'd be here for 2-3 years, and very few who were here less, usually a few loanees especially from January transfer windows. Inevitable with the changes of manager, promotion and now relegation, but it's not good and it shows on the pitch.
I think the main thing this Summer is to sign players who actually want to stay here for the longer term, which is going to be difficult for whoever will be the manager.
Out of our current players, I actually think Love will do well at L2 level, and I'd also like to keep Gibbo and obviously Ripley and Smith as goalkeepers. Love and Gibbo look to be players who'd stay for the long term and really put all their effort into playing for us so could be the start of a new spine. Really not sure who else I'd keep to be honest. I wouldn't even offer Cole nor Arthur a new contract. The loanees are unlikely to stay. Maybe Hunter for pace. Mayor will almost certainly get sold. But we're going to be a whole new team in August, that's for sure.

Secondly we need confirmation of a manager maybe then we can think about players, who will be offered rather large pay cuts

He was definitely offered a new contract ages ago. I'm hoping it was either time-limited, and has now expired, or been withdrawn. I'd hate to think he still has it in his back pocket as a 'fall back', in the event of nothing better being offered. I expect he will leave, regardless of where he goes next, but I'd release him anyway. He'll probably end up at a League Two club and score a hat-trick against us next season, I just hope it is on less money than we offered him originally!
Soon to be out of contract players can be approached as soon as the season ends, but I'm not sure quite what that means? Is it as soon as we play our last game, or, when the play-offs have finished? Or, after the FA Cup final?
redrobo wrote:With regards to Ripley, this is the first season for a long time where he has played an entire season and living near Preston he could decide that playing week in week out and close to a club where he doesn't have to travel too far could be in our favour.
However if Accy manage to stay in EFL1 then I can see them making a move for Connor....
As far as players like Arthur, Delaney and Hunter are concerned offer them a contract but on greatly reduced money with whatever money is then available to be spent on a striker and an experienced midfield general which for me has been a major problem all season and sounds as though DA has accepted that we have lacked experience in that area having relied too much on inexperienced loanees.
