Welcome to the Shrimps Oumar Niasse. Would be handy if he went into the starting 11 for tomorrow.

A few years ago we signed a former Everton striker Stuart Barlow and he scored a cluster of goals that gave us a boost that season. Be nice if Oumar could bang a few in starting tomorrow to push us to safety.

I think realistically he will be a squad player until he at least gets fit. Hopefully he can gain some confidence and chip in with a few goals once settled in

Which was in fact his SECOND spell at the club having previously been at Morecambe VERY briefly in the 1989/90 season.

How ironic that I read a twitter from Scott Carter (ScottChegg) that indicated a number of strkers without clubs including those previously signed by DA. Included in the list was our new recruit to the family.

Although not previously a DA signing, DA and GS have done their homework and decided that he's the best of those available who fit into our current structure.

Hope it turns out well for all concerned and if he can score a few for us and help in our survival then excellent.

Read a wee bit about him of the Burton forum and their fans were full of admiration for his work rate but in particular his skill level and a few seemed surprised that their manager at the time didn't retain him at the end of last season.

Hopefully he's a fit lad and although short of match fitness a seasoned pro knows how to stay inshape should an opportunity arise.

Welcome....

Let's hope he can hit the ground running and quickly finds the back of the net. Good luck to him... ...we all need it!

His salary was £2.8M at Everton, presume he's on a bit less now

Regarded as one of the Toffees biggest ever financial mistakes. Never lived up to expectations which then brought his previous credentials from Russia into question which is what brought him his big money move.

On a positive note...

Was anyone else impressed by Niasse’s second half performance last night? Considering he’s played about ten minutes in the last year, I thought he did well. Put himself about, held the ball up, linked up play, ran at defenders and wasn’t afraid to shoot. Potentially the complete centre forward. I’d definitely start him over Cole again on Saturday.

His run made the goal for us. An excellent second half in particular.

I was impressed with his physicality and wasn't afraid to shoot. Looks similar to Cole but maybe they can develop a partnership or compete for the same position

Funnily enough, I thought physicality was where he was lacking. He's a big fella but somewhat unsurprisingly after a year not playing, didn't look like he really backed himself to win contests, be it getting into a tussle with defenders or in a foot race. Hopefully that should come with a bit of game time though.

Saw bits of technical ability that were just a level above. That turn to set up his run for the goal was superb, and finishing it off with a little nutmeg pass to release Crowley was great. Some of his touches, little bits of skill and weight of passes hit home the gulf in class he's got in him.

There was a moment towards the end when he got a bit of space to run at a defender, who looked like a rabbit in headlights, before he fired the shot wide. If he can keep getting a bit more of that physical edge back to go with his technique then he could do very well for us.

Much more of a channel runner/sitting on the defensive line player than Stockton IMO. Be interesting to see how Derek goes on Saturday with him.
