Really am pleased for him.

We had the occasional differences but really am chuffed that it's been confirmed that he has taken over at Rochdale.

Wonder if history will repeat itself and that his first appointment will be Kevin as his assistant....if so a very good partnership and the first step for Kevin into football management...

None of the "available" transfer listed players are well known to Jim but maybe Cooney and Obika could strengthen Rochdale.

Could potentially be another traditional, long term Football League club dropping out of the league again.

The National League is so tough to get out of, with a mix of large ex-FL clubs and the smaller imposters who always spring a surprise.

It has certainly improved somewhat since we were in it, in fact, we probably got out at the best time.

I'm shocked he's got another job in the football league to be honest. I think he would have take us down had Fylde not come in for him. He took them down aswell. (With a far bigger budget) his win percentage over the last 60 games mustn't be great and it wouldn't inspire me if I was a Dale fan.

Skipping over all the seasons where he kept us up, when we didn't have a pot to piss in, and he used to clean dog crap and broken glass off the school pitch before training? Where neither he, nor the players and backroom staff were getting paid, yet still kept us up? When the club was turned in to a soap opera, with a penniless Brazilian and a mad-Italian who slept in the boardroom, fighting for ownership of the club? I

f you include those seasons, I'd say he's the best man to try and keep 'Dale up. Good luck to him.

I have to agree, Jim is a decent sort and a total Morecambe legend, but he isn’t a great football manager. Look what happened when Derek came in , nobody could have envisioned the success that would follow Bentley leaving. It’s amazing what a positive manager with tactical know how can bring. I always felt as though Jim made excuses for a defeat before the game was even played. I wish him well at Rochdale though, he was a great player and leader for us in his playing days.

Early days under JB were pretty positive I thought, we often played some quite exciting stuff. Also had a reasonably successful season under him finishing 11th and not a million miles away from the play-offs, although I don't remember us ever really being in the picture much in fairness.

I feel that the things Keith has listed did eventually wear him down as he was a pretty downbeat figure in his last couple of years and the football got pretty dire. But who can blame him really, I think several years of all that would wear you down!

DA's an excellent manager as we all know and did well to steady the ship and bring in some fresh ideas to give everything a boost. His arrival also came at a similar time to James and Charlie arriving on the board too which has been great for the club, so a few things did line up nicely.

I'm hoping that a proper break (rather than the direct jump into Fylde) will have done JB a bit of good, and hopefully he can turn things around at Rochdale.

Jim had a very good first season 2011/2012. That great 6-0 win over Crawley managed by Steve Evans which may briefly have had us top of League 2. Also a good win at Barnsley in the League cup.
After that each season seemed like a struggle to avoid the bottom 2.
That awful game at home to Barnet in 2017/2018 when a draw or win guaranteed us survival and Jim played for a draw with the inevitable result meaning we needed to avoid defeat at Coventry for survival. Let's give Jim a lot of credit for our 0-0 draw which owed much to Baz making 3 world class saves to keep the Sky Blues out.
Season 2018/2019 looked grim until the January window when Jim managed to sign Aaron Collins and Richard Bennett and the goals they scored meant we survived comfortably and included some great wins like 4-2 at home to MKDons.
The 2019/2020 season was poor result-wise , although the financial demise of Bury and Macclesfield meant nobody was going to be relegated. After Jim left in November with Morecambe bottom of the table , the King arrived and results slowly picked up especially after we signed players like Toums , Adam Phillips and Cooney in the January window and eventually we were placed 22nd in a shortened season.

The point is, he did all that AND kept us up. Those leadership qualities drove the players on. If he can get a 'never say die' attitude instilled at Rochdale, he may keep them up, too.
