How is it a great draw? With respect they are but a big Championship club, it’s away from home and we will make likely get knocked out. There were so many potentially exciting local derbies and Prem clubs to play.

And I am fully aware of who we have played over the years, one of my first games was Horwich RMI away in the mid-nineties and I’ve seen us in the Lancs Cup against various sides.

If anything it’s a nark of how far we have come that this is viewed as a crap draw.

Terrible draw. Very little in the way of prize money in the League cup so a plum home tie against a PL side is a must to generate some income.

Maybe not a premier League team at home

But ask all the championship teams fans who got knocked out last night bet they were playing a 2nd round game in a couple of weeks

Not the best but we’ve had some great ties in recent seasons so maybe we were due a duff one. On the positive side we may get through this. We were very unfortunate not to get something there at the end of last season.

Northern Section Draw:

Bolton Wanderers v Aston Villa
Derby County v West Bromwich Albion or Sheffield United
Wolverhampton Wanderers v Preston North End
Leeds United v Barnsley
Fleetwood Town v Everton
Sheffield Wednesday v Rochdale
Tranmere Rovers v Newcastle United
Rotherham United v Morecambe
Barrow v Lincoln City
Stockport County v Leicester City
Bradford City v Blackburn Rovers
Grimsby Town v Nottingham Forest
Shrewsbury Town v Burnley

Taking in to account the team & distance to travel on a Tuesday night, which clubs could we have drawn that would have been worse than Rotherham, if we were away from home?

Lincoln? Shrewsbury? Grimsby? Bradford & Barnsley would have been on a par with Rotherham. Anything else would have been better.

So, as I said, it could have been worse. But not much.

And yes, it is a sign of how far we've come. I said that before the Stoke game too, that Stoke would have been an amazing cup draw not that long ago.
