O/T Women's Euros Thread

As the original thread got derailed, if anyone is wanting to discuss the women's Euro's please feel free.

If you want to pass comment on the quality of commentators or lighter cricket balls, please use the other thread. Likewise, if you want to recreate the ghost of Sepp Blatter do so on the 'bickering' thread.

COME ON ENGLAND!

Well I am enjoying the Womens' Euros. I am finding it entertaining and it's refeshing to see the lack of play-acting, talking back to officials etc.

The standard of football in the womens' game has come on in leaps and bounds in recent years and will continue to get better with further investment and time. I think it is great to see and provides role models and encouragement to girls who might otherwise think football is not for them.

The Lionesses, Germany and France have been especially impressive.

And England have a much better chance of winning a trophy than the Men's team!

Watching the second half of France v Belgium game. I'd have to say that VAR is farcical. The Belgium defender had her arm behind her back, as she turned away from the shot her arm came out and clipped the ball. After an age, the ref was called over and watched, then rewatched it repeatedly, in slow-motion. Eventually, decides it was a handball, therefore a penalty, and a second yellow card.

If we're stuck with VAR, (and obviously, we are) I think they need to return to the original provision and say that it is used for 'clear & obvious' errors. The ref should then get to see it once, at full speed, possibly twice, from a different angle. Replaying an incident over & over, in slow motion, isn't a clear & obvious error.

It worked a bit better tonight, ref was quick to call a pen for handball, but VAR was right to overturn it.

I was actually beginning to feel sorry for the Swedish goalkeeper last night, she had a 'mare. But thoroughly enjoyed the game.

So now we know how it will play-out this week. Germany win tonight, then score in the 85th minute on Sunday to make it 1-1. No more goals in extra-time, then Germany win on penalties.

The only prediction I will make for the the final is that German no6 Oberdorf will be sent off or taken off early after a yellow card.
A defender in the Roy Keane/ Norman Hunter / Bob Baldwin mode !

Entertaining first half, nothing much in it. Ref wouldn't look out of place at Morecambe games

Second half, Germany slightly on top so far.

Toone showing Connolly what to do when one-on-one with a keeper who is spreading themselves! Great composure & lob to finish.

What's the likelihood of this game finishing with 22 players on the pitch? It's certainly feisty!

I was wrong to say we don't see women roll around, totally different game against this lot, composure gone out the window apart from showing us how to score a 1 on 1

In 1920, 53,000 fans turned out to watch Dick, Kerr's Ladies Team play. By contrast, just over 50,000 fans watched that season's men's FA Cup Final.

The FA eventually banned women from playing because the game was becoming more popular than the men's.

With FIFA selling the men's World Cup to Qatar, a country that imprisons women who report if they are raped, because they had sex outside of marriage, and where homosexuality is illegal, I genuinely hope England & Wales go out at the first opportunity, and take more pride out of the women's success.

If Gareth falls on his sword the England Ladies manager could be the person to take over from him. She has them playing good quality attacking football.

Would our wonderful FA let that happen, after all we have got a Queen and had lady prime ministers so why not.
Serena has won 2 championships now without defeat
