Any fellow SV'ers watching the tournament? Been watching the major women's tournaments for the past six years. Refreshing how they don't dive, roll around.

Sarina Wiegman is a clear upgrade on the previous two England managers, I'm excited to see how far she can take England this time round.

Agreed, their natural shape means they cant roll around.
All for equality, so why are mens tv games now headed by women and womens games by, err, women

It's like the F1 they have a female "pundit" from the women's series but sorry that is like taking a kid out of F3 or some other junior formula and asking them for their expertise on how to drive an F1 car.

I just find it hard to understand how some of them have the relative experience to be an expert on such matters.

They don't, but the TV companies have to tick their diversity boxes!

I see the same thing in cricket. They always have a female commentator on men's games. In no way are the 2 games similar. The majority of female fast bowlers are around the 70mph mark. None of them will have known what it's like facing someone like Michael Holding bowling at 95 mph and aimed at the head !

Sky sacked Botham and Gower who have been there done it and got the Tee shirt but are not diverse enough in the current climate.

Does that matter though? We all sit here chatting about and judging a bunch of professional soccer players despite (I'm assuming) most of us never having played at a professional level.

When they say to a female footballer you have played in cup finals before or large international games and experienced this type of game/atmosphere, it's not really the same is it.

It's like getting a male player from non league who played in the FA Trophy final and asking them to be a pundit at the FA cup.

Female presenters are fine and there are some very good ones, just look at all the comments the past few days about Sue Barker but pundits are another matter.

Last year's Euro's, Englands first game in the group stages at Wembley: 18,497 attendance on a Sunday.
Last week. England (w) first game in the group stages at Old Traffic: 68,871 attendance on a Wednesday.

Now, with the pandemic I can't remember how many tickets were even available for the men's match last season, but I think it's stupid to try and pretend these women, especially those who make major cup finals, haven't experienced atmosphere.

Not the same thing just because we sit here chatting without playing football at a pro level.

These are expert commentators and Sky had some real experts , Botham , Gower , Bumble Lloyd etc who had all experienced the rough tough mens' game of cricket and replaced them with females who have only ever played a very gentle version of the game.

Sad to see some quite backwards views that are attempted to be justified with a pretty poor argument.

Pundits are there to analyse the game and give insight. A bit of 'been there and done it' can be helpful in that, and there are some ex-pros from the men's game like Jamie Carragher who give superb analysis, but it's really not the be all and end all of good punditry.

You don't need to have played in x amount of major men's finals to provide good football analysis. Just go online and see the huge numbers of blogs/Twitter accounts etc that provide some great analysis from people who aren't ex-pros.

In fact, look a bit closer to home at our own analysis department! Harry who does the first team analysis has never played professionally, but I'm sure we all trust his judgement and analysis? Derek Adams certainly does seeing as he hired him.

So the argument that women ex-pros shouldn't be pundits on men's games because 'been there and done it' in the men's game is nonsense. You don't need to have done so to provide good punditry. Emma Hayes is one of the best about for providing analysis. Would take listening to her over Martin Keown or Danny Murphy any day.

Similarly, Roy Hodgson's playing career peaked at Gravesend & Northfleet, but had a pretty decent managerial record, suggesting he might know a thing or two about the game, without being a top class player!

Sorry, that's 5-0. Just shut up and enjoy the party :D

Wow!

Some unbelievably misogynistic attitudes on here!

Sexism alive and well on Shrimpsvoices, without a even a hint of embarrassment.

Hang your heads in shame Keith & Co.

I wont be coming back.

WHAT???

If you do come back, you could try actually reading the thread properly? Alternatively, try to quote where I've written anything even slightly sexist?

Bit of a dive for the penalty. I think it was a close call as the defenders arm was wrapped round her but Emma White threw herself down. Not complaining, just stating how diving is in the women's game as well.

You are the custodian of the site if I am correct?

Would you allow Racist discussion
Would you allow an anti gay discussion?

But Sexism is OK?

Take out female presenter and substitute for any of the above and see if you would have stepped in to modorate?

Cisco Kid is right. Keith, your own post is not offensive, but if anyone were to "read the thread properly" they would find all the tripe about female commentators/pundits and judge SV contributors accordingly. I was hoping a mod would flag up some kind of warning on the content, as it's precisely this sort of 'banter' that makes some women feel they can't be arsed with it all. It's exactly what the recent Her Game Too initiative was about, and its depressing that a few people on here don't have that respect for female players, presenters and fans.
