Interesting points. At the end of the season I thought there's no way he'd stay but perhaps it makes sense for him to at least see out his contract. I guess there's four parties at play. Cole, Derek, the board and interested clubs. If he's been offered an improved offer to stay and Derek wants him, why not stay and become a bit of a club legend. He seems like a nice lad who appreciates the support he gets. Sure, he could get a big contract elsewhere, not get the same love or football and then eventually end up back in L2 or Conference to play out the tail end of his career.

Big decision time, wonder what Carlos will do when his time is up and has hardly kicked a ball competitively for 12 months

One possible replacement if the worst happens and Cole leaves is Paul McCallum at Dagenham.

One unreliable source on twitter said we have made a bid as he has 1 year left on his Daggers contract.

He scored at the Globe as it was called then for Wimbledon in a 3-1 Morecambe win and was then red carded for a foul on Nick Fenton.

Alan Nixon in todays paper say Derek Adams hopes to sign Jake Taylor a midfielder at Port Vale in a bargain deal. In the same article Nixon says we are set to offer Adam Smith (keeper) a new deal. I think we knew that about 6 weeks ago from our retained list !

Are we paying a fee for him assuming that it's true about our interest this would invikce money which I understand was scarce.

It’s Alan Nixon, we were selling Cole for 500k to anyone in January, remember? Probably bollocks but we will know soon enough.

On the eve of pre season trading this, could be bad news for the club but good news for Cole. Time will tell if our fears are confirmed but the lack of any news about Cole staying with us has been worrying. If he goes finding a suitable replacement will be difficult but a return of a former centre forward could happen.

Looking / reading the Rotherham forum - 1 fan suggested they are due to sign four players as early as tomorrow

Will be interesting to see if King Cole is among them

1st day of training could be interesting to see who appears / who does not appear !!!!

Could be an interesting first day's pre season training.

Rumours also that Arthur could be going North of the border with St Mirren one of the possible clubs after him.

As an eternal optimist, I'm actually hoping that Cole goes.

Towards the end of the season especially, opposition teams were getting better at stopping him and we had no other goal scoring options. If Cole goes, but Derek gets a decent war chest, we may pick up some midfielders who can chip in with a few goals. If his replacement scores twelve, but midfielders increase their return by another twelve between them, overall, we're better off. If he stays, I doubt he'll have another season like last year.

Hopefully, he gets a big money move to a Championship side and we get a significant transfer fee, to build elsewhere. Win-win.

I think you're right but there are rather a lot of if's! If we get big money. If that money goes into the transfer/wages pot. If we can get the right players. If Cole's replacement can score 12+. If the mids can score 12 between them. If all that happens then you are right Keith.

Any Cole Stockton money should be used securing Derek Adams on a better contract.

I think you might be right Keith, Derek never seems to have a plan B for when Cole is marked out of games (take the 2nd half at Wembley as an example).

I always remember years ago when Rooney left Everton and they actually did ok and everyone else started chipping in with goals.

IF Cole goes for decent money it's then down to our owners being prepared to back DA with a financial war chest that will allow him to bring in new players who can be a big influence in our fight for league survival this coming season.

Maybe the addition of say 4 quality signings could improve the team to such an extent that Cole's departure wouldn't be as bad as we think.

As for Cole's potential replacement wouldn't surprise me if we see a return of Vadine Oliver... :o

Really hope a deal is done one way or another this week. If it goes the way of Lavelle we are a bit screwed. Best option is for him to stay as den with money we may struggle to attract a decent L1 striker.

I hope he does,nt go but is,nt a fully fit Obika a ready made replacement, as Robbo said he was his major signing from the scotish prem. And maybe our manager thought it was,nt cost effective to have them both.

If only Cole was a few years younger the club could be looking at a £4million pound deal such as the one featured above....
