If this 'rumour' is true then probably the best outcome for all parties.

If Cole does go to Rotherham I will thank him and wish him the best as a championship player

It will also give Derek 10 weeks to bring another striker or two in

Which part don't you understand? This emanates from an unofficial, unreliable, unknown, unverified source. If true, and fee is undisclosed - there's nothing stopping an unofficial, unreliable, unknown, unverified source speculating about the value of said fee.

I find it strange that people follow this sort of thing on Twitter. The account has a mere 153 followers... and is most likely some prepubescent yooof/wanabee journo taking time off from playing FIFA in order to generate engagement on twitter through a faceless profile. For context, the same account said that the club were in advanced talks with Tom Barkhuizen three weeks ago - but the player is now heavily linked with Derby County.

I think the likelihood is that Stockton will be sold, especially if he does not want to sign a new contract. As others have said, you just hope that this is early in the window and allows the club some time and funds to find replacements. Although he might end up at the Millers, if they are indeed interested as speculated, that will only occur once the clubs valuation has been reached.... not because a daft account on twitter has said that its 100% happening/confirmed.

Searched high and low for EFL Centre.....no such site.

Only twitter info reads @centre_efl.....

See link: https://mobile.twitter.com/centre_efl

You have quite a few of these accounts on Twitter that make up transfer stories based off guesswork for a few likes and retweets. Sometimes they'll make good guesses or scour decent information from paper talk or fans forums etc, but they don't have any actual proper verifiable sources. Not much point in reading much into them.

With the Smith contract situation at Rotherham, it's probably one of the more likely destinations for Stockton. If I were to guess where he might end up, Rotherham would probably be top of the list and £600k would seem a reasonable figure. Doesn't make me or that account ITK though, it's just an educated guess.

If he goes then it will take one hell of a signing to replace him as obviously his goals kept us up this season. It is not impossible though!

This is the toughest league to stay up in with 4 relegation places.

We won't get a better striker but the money could pay for 2/3 quality players making us a better team. The opposition found ways to stop Cole in the second half of the season

If Cole is tempted away, do we need a better player or one just as good? I trust D.A will have been all over this situation, and will be working hard with the BoD to make sure we are ready for the new season ahead.

Looks like Connor Washington is going to Rotherham so can't see Cole going there now unless Smith is sold

According to Alan Nixon in todays Sunday Sun Stockport County and Hibs are interested in Cole.

I thought he had already been at Hibs.

Cole played for Hearts and had a pretty torrid time up there. I don't think he scored a goal for them. Nixon talks rubbish, I called him out for it and he blocked me onnTwitter. The clown even charges people for the rumours he puts together.

In response to Freeze, who I think is a top guy, Stockport County in financial terms are big, big players. The wages they have been paying in the national league are in excess of 2.5 m, which is far above ours. In fact it will be interesting next season for them as the wage criteria is different in the EFL to the national league. However, a transfer fee of £600,000.00 a figure that is bandied about, certainly not my estimate of his value, would be within the scope and ambition of Stockport County’s owner

Hopefully Cole will look at the likes of Mullin and Co who chased the big bucks but will be stuck in the Conference for another season and realise he is better than that. You can not blame any player for making as much money as they can but hopefully he will better himself by signing for a top L1 club or even have a go in the Champ. I can see merit in the Stockport story but I think it is a pretty lazy rumour from Nixon, most fans chatting in the pub could put the link together.

Hibs is a peculiar name to be thrown out there. I don't know exactly how much financial muscle they have, but I'd be surprised if they had upwards of half a million to splash on a striker. And like people have mentioned, Stockton's not exactly got rosy memories from his last spell in Scotland.

Stockport obviously have money and can likely pay a higher wage, but again no idea if that equates to having upwards of £500k ready to throw at a transfer fee. That said, they spent a 'significant' (although undisclosed) fee on Madden who was 31 at the time.

On Nixon, his contacts base will most likely be agents. It's in their interests to drip feed and exaggerate potential transfer interest to try and strengthen their negotiating position for contracts/transfers etc.

Nixon referred to us as "The Shrimpers" in his column which made me wonder if he had just cut and pasted it from somewhere !

I hadn't realised that the Hibs manager is ex Sunderland boss Lee Johnson.
