Another that may need to be shipped out although SR said he was his main target in the transfer market at that time

Isn't he on a 2 year contract like Wes?

It seems the players that have come good are on one year deals and the ones that need to go are on 2 years. Although Robbo says there were rushed signings he must have been keen on them to get 2 years.

Obika and McDonald aren't players I'd look at in a similar way at all. Aside from playing different positions, their circumstances are vastly different.

Obika's a 31 year old seasoned pro, who we could be quite confident of when signing that he would be able to put in some decent performances at this level.

McDonald is a 24 year old and a gamble. He had flashes in L2 and some decent underlying numbers, but unfortunately it's not really come to fruition in L1 after a number of opportunities.

I'm very surprised at people judging Obika so harshly on what's been less than 200 league minutes returning from a really really major hamstring injury. Just because he's able to play doesn't mean he's back to full capacity.

Give him more time to get up to speed, then make a judgement.

I hope you are right about Obika, Littleshrimp. I realise he is coming back from a serious injury but I would have expected to see little flashes of quality during his comeback. Truth be told I see a player without pace, without any skills/trickery on the ball and seemingly without any passion. My worry is he is an experienced pro coming to the close of his career earning a couple more years pay at the Mazuma.

I worry about Obika and the lasting impact of his injury. I can not remember him committing himself to one high intensity sprint since he has returned. He seems to amble around rather than chase things down and when he has the ball he pretty much stands still. I know it is really early days after a very nasty injury but he is a concern.

I think Obika's injury and that Arthur and Jonah would struggle to score in a brothel with a £20 note tied to it make it imperative that our next signing must be an attacker of L1 standard.

Not a fan of your implication that Obika is here just to take a wage, fulwoodshrimp. Many people within football speak incredibly highly of his character, including a great deal of people from St Mirren's fan base. Don't forget that he was straight into helping with the commentary earlier this season - was only meant to do one game and ended up doing four. So basically - your worry about him just larking about and picking up a wage is completely unfounded.

For me, he has shown little flashes of skill, although his pace/high intensity bursts of speed etc will probably be the last thing to come back I imagine. Felt he worked hard coming off the bench against Doncaster particularly. I think it is a fair point though to worry about how well he can recover overall from the injury - I think (would have to check) that it's similar to AJ's.

However, he's just back after recovering pretty quickly all things considered. Again, he has played less than 200 minutes of league football for us! To make any proper judgement on him at this point is pointless. Give it till the end of the season when he's had a bit more time to recover and get up to speed.

That's exactly what I've been on about for some time. Good to see we are on the same wavelength...

i think the centre midfielders should be chipping in with more as well, they don't seem to make late runs into the box like under Derek and they never shoot from outside the box.
