40,310 so a nice little earner for our club.

Wonder if Spurs will give us their share....it has been known before at other Cup Ties.... :?: :?: :?:

After all we need the cash much more than they do.... ;)

Yesterday was the highest ever attendance to watch a Morecambe game, surpassing the previous record of 40,043 that was set at Wembley Stadium in 2007 vs Exeter City for the Conference Play-off Final.

Also, O'Connors goal was the first time that the Shrimps have scored in the FA Cup Third round - after firing blanks on the four previous occasions that we have reached that stage of competition:
1962 Morecambe 0-1 Weymouth
2001 Morecambe 0-3 Ipswich Town
2003 Ipswich Town 4-0 Morecambe
2021 Chelsea 4-0 Morecambe

And also the first time we have ever led in the Third round ;) :D

If you don't include the Lancashire Senior Cup - which although considered a competition for reserve sides today, was quite prestigious in years gone by.... and a great achievement for the club to win in 1967/68 2-1 vs Burnley in front of 4,230 fans at Christie Park.

Morecambe team: Millard, Varcoe, Baldwin, Halstead, Irving, Crompton, Porter, Martin, Borrowdale, Timmins (2), Lea. Sub Holding for Martin

Burnley: Jones, Smith, Buxton, Bellamy, Merrington, Kinsella, Coates (864 = 4 England caps), Casper, Dobson (1) (893 = 5 England caps), Thomas (901 = 8 England caps), Kindon
Sub: Ternant

There's only been 1200 odd players that have represented England, and 3 of them were in the Burnley side that evening.

Also a Welsh international in Leighton James, maybe 60 or so caps, and also in Frank Casper on of the best forwards not to receive an international call up

So we had 11 'normal' players in the 1966 cup winning team and over 1200 'odd' players the rest of the time.
Helps me understand why we haven't won anything since then !
