I've been very critical of our Captain in the past BUT all credit to him for coming out and facing the cameras and talking about some home truths concerning performances over the past few weeks.

That took balls and was the words of someone who was able to put the situation into perspective.

He admitted that we are very quiet on the field and no doubt includes himself in that assessment.

IF as he suggests the players need to get things sorted themselves then maybe, just maybe the 5-0 drubbing could be the much need kick up their collective backsides that is needed. No words for SR or his staff are needed. It's up to the players to sort things out...... :!: :!: :!:

Stephen Robinson was equally forthright in his interview, with no sugar coating. Basically, some players are not good enough for League One.

Both videos are uncomfortable viewing, but then, so was the game.

So how did that work out then?

I agree Keith BUT SR has been saying the same words time after time with no change.

O'Connor had the balls to say it as the Captain of the team and hopefully his words to and about those around him will say more than any words from our manager.

Do you think O'Connor is actually having a bit of a pop at Robbo here? He references the "before tonight we only lost 1 in five" mantra as a load of rubbish. He didn't say Stephen directly, but he's the only one I can think of that's been pushing this absurd, selective, tosh that's appeared in recent interviews. Got to say I agree with O'Connor on something!

The five games Robbo refers to do not include games that we lost in the Football League Trophy, but do include ties in the FA Cup against Newport and Buxton (who Lancaster City beat FFS). Its a complete nonsense, merely an attempt to deflect our generally poor league form since that collapse at Wycombe. Not as subtle as Boris Johnson, but not far off.

The players should shoulder most of the blame - on the night they were nowhere near good enough. But this is not new, last time out we got blasted for 4, yet we keep the same back 4 (that the manager is sick of telling the same things to over and over again). Perhaps the manager needs to look at the shape and our tactics? I didn't expect us to roll Sunderland over in the slightest - it was always going to be a challenge, but we should be doing better than that. We are so open it is frightening. We know that we have a crap defence, yet play 4-3-3 away at Sunderland. Are we naive, stupid, or both? Maybe O'Connor disagrees with the way the team is being set-up? He mentions a lack of intensity in training also.

TBH - some of the crap we hear from the coaching team is becoming tiresome. O'Carroll has said a few times that we are looking up rather than down. I'd do neither and concentrate on putting together a team that can keep a clean sheet vs credible opponents. We are yet to keep one away from home in the league this season, and now we also have the leakiest defence. I like Robbo, and long-term I think he is the right man for this club. But we need him to turn this around quickly - and be competitive to the point where playing well gets results. No doubt some nerd will populate an xG graph showing we should be doing better with the chances we create - those stats are meaningless if you can't defend for shit. Tighten it up FFS.

Now we lack leaders also apparently, something O'Connor is supposed to be - but a title he will struggle to adopt with authority whilst he continues to make individual errors himself. I've said repetitively that we had no choice in selling Sam Lavelle, but in the wake of this latest shambles I am leaning towards the opposite. With hindsight, letting him go on deadline day and replacing him with Wootton off the street when your other two CB put in consistently pathetic displays is like giving your shares to a fat Brazilian before he has paid you the money (this is my attempt at being light hearted about the current situation - plus I have stolen this line off somebody else). You just can't do it!

Finally, disappointing that Robbo headed straight down the tunnel last night without acknowledging the travelling supporters - many of whom spent hard earned money, and took time off work to attend. All of whom would do the same at the drop of a hat. Show them some respect, even if you do feel humiliated and embarrassed. The feeling was mutual.

Not often that RRW and I agree but he's got it spot on in the above post.

The only contentious point is concerning Sam.....

We spoke to Ben his father and agent the other week who said that Sam didn't want to go to Charlton but had little option even though on their way that evening to complete the transfer that the deal was ON then OFF then back ON again.

Even when I spoke to Sam I got the feeling that the move to Charlton was far from what he wanted.

Maybe the club should have done what Accy did and refused to allow one of their strikers a move to another club for a reported £1.5million... but assured Sam that he could move in Summer and accept the financial hit that the club would suffer....hindsight is a wonderful thing... :!: :!: :!:

I posted recently that any idea that the manager could lose his job was fanciful, but after last night's performance you've really got to question where we're headed. This is the team that got a creditable 2-2 draw at Ipswich.

Letheren, Cooney, O'Connor, Delaney, Gibson, McLoughlin, Diagouraga, McCalmont, Gnahoua, Stockton and McDonald.

The side hasn't changed much since then yet the overall performances are nose diving and we don't look like a team. Of the Ipswich side I'd have had Lavelle for Delaney, but otherwise good. To go from that to what we saw last night is staggering.

For me that's a coaching problem because as a team and individuals they're going backwards.

I also don't get certain decisions. E.g. Wooton not in for Delaney? Toums not in to give experience in big games? No change in formation to tighten up the side? Gibson in the side and Leigh up field instead of Ayunga to tighten up on a flank?

Lastly, injuries. What is going on? No Obika, Gibson, McLoughlin or McPake last night, all of whom would strengthen the team. They make the bench, they disappear. What are we doing to them?

Robbo was brought in on a background of player development, yet we're getting worse and we've dropped some of our best players from last season to get there. A lot of serious issues need addressing and very quickly, because compared to the discipline of last season, we were an utter shambles last night (sadly off the pitch too).

Playing Greg as a left winger is a good shout considering how bad our wide men are and also Gibson always adds a bit of assurance when he is on.

Watching these two videos, it's obvious that MFC is not a happy camp. Emotions are running high and perhaps the last few league matches need to be parked and some positivity bought back. Dare I say the coolness and methodical nature of Adams would benefit us right now.

Gibson would be best as a LCB in a back three with Greg Leigh obviously at LWB.
