If he did leave it would be for lots of money

14 goals in 21 starts

Not many shabby goals either

Keep it going Cole

Absolutely nothing, other than, speculation that a Championship side will come in and offer us a deal we can't turn down. A team like Hull, who have to operate under a transfer embargo at the moment, may be desperate for a goalscorer to try and stay in the Championship. But, they are at their maximum squad size, so need to have a player leave in order to make space.

If only they had a decent player who we would want?

How about one million plus Callum Jones? :D :D :D

CMG may be wondering (apart from his salary BACS) whether he should have stayed with us and see if he could cut it in League 1. Maybe Cole will at least want to stay till the Summer (as do I) and he will still have a year to go on his contract.

I hope Ridsdale doesn't try and steal him from us. Barkheusen's contract is up in the Summer so maybe we could swoop

I'd like to think that Cole would decide to stay put until the end of his contract as he hasn't set the world on fire at any other club. OK the lure of more money is tempting for any footballer but maybe we are in a financial position to go some way to increase his salary sufficiently to make any move questionable.

Here's hoping that he feels settled at our club and that our BoD will do their best to make any financial offer enough to keep him in red.

i wish other players would chip in with goals, i feel the other front two wing/forwards don't support Stockton enough.

I doubt it will happen but would love to see a front 3 of Cole, Ayunga and a fit Obika....the power that that collective could be frightening to any defense.

Maybe my wish will happen some time..,. :?: :?: :?:

I agree others need to be chipping in also we need the midfielders to be running into the box more
For me I'm not convinced by any of our wide players so far so Cole has still been doing it all on his own.

When McPake comes back I think he could be really useful, certainly think he will offer more than Gnahoua or Slew.

Without his goals I think we'd be on 13 points and in 22nd or 23rd place. With them we're on 18 points in 18th place.

Jordan Slew left the Shrimps at the end of last season, and now plays for FC Halifax Town in the National League. His last Morecambe game was in March 2021. A lot has happened since then.

The 'Cole of the Season' competition is going to be some viewing this year..... his value to the team continues to increase. Surely somebody will enquire about his services in January if they are not doing so already - and if we get bids in excess of £1.5m+ (a number that I keep increasing!) for the divisions top scorer (joint with Michael Smith from Rotherham = 12) can we afford to listen to them at this time? We stand a much better chance of surviving in League One with him at the club than we do without him IMO - how much is that worth to the club? He is a very important player for us. Nice problem to have where we hold all the cards, assuming there are no buy-out clauses in his contract, and with Cole seemingly very happy to be continuing his development here for the time being.

Also worth noting that Cole has at least another season on his current contract, but the way the club have diligently been putting deals together recently - we might have further options to extend this(?). Purely speculation on my part, but when you look at Wildig and Toums extensions last season - we enacted these with no real knowledge by the general fan base that such clauses even existed. It wasn't always this way, both in terms of having these options and also the retention of club information - long may that continue.

I'm expecting big things from Obika so maybe if a deal for Cole is too good to reject for both parties then...... :?: :?: :?:

BUT I'd much prefer for our BoD to re negotiate Cole's contract with a pay deal that would compete favourably elsewhere and for Cole prefer to stay with us rather than risk another move where in the past the grass hasn't been greener.

Whatever happens we can't get into a situation as that at Accrington where star striker Dion Charles was refused a move to Posh by the club because the bid of over £1 million was rejected by Accy and as a result Charles refused to play for Accy again in protest of being denied a financially rewarding deal and his last game was in September.

This way madness comes!

You've seen the videos that the club have been putting out. We're well run, living within our means and accept that we will be aiming to develop players, then sell them for a profit, to then reinvest in the club. Assuming if Cole moved, it would be to a Championship club, then are you really suggesting that we offer Cole wages that match Championship sides, while playing in League One?

If a Championship side come in with a decent offer, that works for Cole & Morecambe FC, then we say good-bye & thank you for the memories. Now what constitutes "a decent offer" is open to debate.

.....and without Cole we could get relegated.....so for me we offer him a deal that he finds acceptable that compares well with other offers but no way would we be able to match that of a Championship club but as I suggest compare with other offers. Maybe Cole prefers playing week in week out unlike CMG....

I'd like to think considering he's taken a while in his career to really settle somewhere that he will stay on until the end of the season and then look for a potential championship move then and we can get a decent fee.

A few things I think need addressing hear. Firstly - I'm also not quite sure why Slew has been referenced? Quite a different player to Gnahoua as well. Gnahoua hasn't always dug up trees but has been a pretty solid performer. He's well worthy of a place in the squad, although I agree having McPake back as another option/competition will be very welcome.

On Accrington and their strikers - it was Colby Bishop that Peterborough came in for, not Dion Charles. I think it was around the £1/£1.5 million mark and if I'm honest, I think Coleman/Holt may have overplayed their hand a little. Especially given (I think) that Bishop was apparently pretty keen on the move as he has family from that area. In fairness, though, it was a deadline day bid (price will always be higher) and Bishop has gotten his head down and is playing regularly. Not scoring as many goals though.

It's true that Charles seems to have fallen out with the club. Coleman recently said in an interview on BBC Radio Lancs that he agreed with Charles that if there was no transfer over summer, then Charles would sign a new deal. He hasn't, and that's why Coleman won't play him. A number of clubs were interested in him apparently - seems like Hibs were the most mentioned one. That's only Coleman's side though - perhaps Charles is frustrated with how the club handled any bids etc for him? I think it's very possible that Stanley have slightly overplayed their hand again here. Think there are some lessons to be learnt from their recent activity.

On Stockton - we can't offer him enough money to make him want to turn down a Championship club for financial reasons. He may see it as a gesture from us and appreciate that, but it will not be more (I doubt even that close to) than what Championship clubs can offer. Stockton seems quite happy currently and grounded by his previous experiences - hopefully that will guide him in seeing out a successful season with us. I think it's a fair assumption that with more time to weigh up his options over summer, he's more likely to land a transfer that's more right for him.

Don't like the little dig about CMG playing week in week out. He had several Championship clubs after him (compared to Stockton who, as far as we know, only had Bolton and Bradford sniffing about), and ultimately (with the guidance of the club it seems) went to the one that it was agreed was the best fit. We also got our record transfer deal from it. He's struggled to settle immediately it seems, but that can happen. It's only been half a season, and there's plenty of time for him to work on the things he needs to. Hopefully he will be able to do that and start playing more for Luton.

I think that sums it up nicely. Long term it would be in the best interest for club and player for Cole to stay on until the end of the season. I expect his contribution and goals up front will be the difference in if we stay up or go down and the transfer fee we could bring in over the summer will further help us solidify our position as a league 1 club.
