Wootton and Mensah

Seems to recall that Wootton once played as a defensive midfielder in seasons past.

Maybe time for SR to try him in that position rather than in the centre of defense.

I think there is a game behind closed doors this Friday....make the most of it and try something different.

Also give Mensah a chance in the centre of defense. Every time I've seen him to date he's been steady and impressive and I know others feel he should be given a chance.

Now isn't the time for square pegs and round holes. You should have stopped putting these ideas in to the universe after your claims Adam Buxton would do a job in the middle despite the fact he was morbidly obese.

I'd be interested what your short term solution or suggestions would be....as we can't go on like this and hope that come January all will be sorted which for me could be too late.

Are you sure you’re not confusing AOC with Wootton? Anthony definitely has past experience as a DM and we played him there to no avail a few games ago. If I’m wrong and Scott has played there before, I still stand by the point of not putting him there - his awareness and positioning is so far off that he’d be a liability in midfield.

Mensah did well against Carlisle then picked up an injury, however it didn’t look like that he was going to get first XI game time anyway. Alongside a big, solid, powerhouse of a centre half he’d excel however Mensah and O’Connor seems incredibly weak to me.

The only way forward is 4-3-3 for this season, with the occasional switch to a 352 mid-game. If the players can’t even learn how to stay with their man from dead-balls, I doubt teaching them a new system which requires playing players out of position would help.

You’re right though, something needs to change. I’m not on about the manager, instead the mentality and confidence of our lads. I honestly believe Stephen is a good manager and we’ll see how he does when he can prepare properly for a transfer window.

I wouldn't expect any manager to listen to a fan but by implication you are suggesting that everything is ok.....far from it in my opinion.

As for Wootton in a defensive midfield role, he did spend some game time under Uwe Rosler in that role but the vast majority of his career both in the UK and Europe was as a number 4. Surely in this weeks behind closed doors game it's worth a look in a midfield role.....all too gain surely

100% this. I would love to be able to jump on a formation change that would suddenly fix our problems. But I just don't see it. Mentality and confidence is more the issue for me, and I have no idea how to change that! Hopefully Robbo has got some tricks up his sleeve to get us through to January.

I'm intrigued to know what the dressing room is like since Sam left, do we still have a tight knit bunch with great team spirit or has the dynamics now changed.

Robbo does mention a lot of the lads are quiet and have headphones on a lot, maybe having a dressing room full of scousers playing pranks all the time wasn't a bad thing after all.

Are we missing some personalities in there to bring the group together on and off the pitch.

Player confidence and mentality is one of the managers jobs. Some are good at it and others not so good.

Remember when Jimbo took the lads to Arnside and went treading for flat fish.... and also the trip to Lake Windermere where they had to build rafts. A fair number got absolutely soaked as they kept either falling in or being pushed in.....
