The club is reported to be interested in a deal for Fulham defender Luca Murphy but there are a number of other clubs interested in the player who has been unable to agree a deal at Fulham

If this rumour were true it could mean Sam's absence from the action yesterday was due to a pending move so therefore a replacement for him possibly :?: :?: :?: :?:

"Championship side Barnsley, League One outfits Ipswich Town, Sunderland, Accrington and Morecambe and League Two club Salford City are all weighing up making offers for the player..."

Who else still feels like it's a dream? Being mentioned as after the same player as Ipswich & Sunderland and considering "making an offer" for a player? :D Happy Days!

SR's reputation for developing young talent & regular football may be a key draw to Murphy.

Am I missing something here? What's the point of selling Sam and paying for his replacement? Unless we're selling Sam for lots more than we'd have to pay Murphy (or someone else), why would we do it and lose our captain? Sounds like Murphy is similar to Sam, so surely couldn't be cheaper?

Not sure that Murphy would cost as much as we could get for Sam for the simple reason is that Sam is proven at this level.

At the moment it is pure speculation regarding Sam but a few predicted that he could be on his way close season to a higher division club.

What will be, will be but Sam deserves a chance higher up the leagues. He's been excellent for us so I'd wish him well.....BUT he's still our player....

Regarding Sam Lavelle, he is in the last year of his contract. Assuming we do not have the option to extend this, the club needs to tie him down now with a new deal..... or look to sell him IMO. Also, if Sam has the opportunity to play at a higher level (Blackpool always rumoured, easy connection to make) then I don't think we should stand in his way as long as we are suitably compensated.

To be successful at this level, IMO we need to produce and develop talent to sustain the club. We can't become attached to players, even ones such as Sam, and then watch them leave for nothing - a common complaint from fans in previous seasons. Luton and Brentford operate on a similar basis/strategy, which enables both to compete at a higher level.

Sam isn’t proven at THIS level though.

I can’t see us getting a comparable fee for him as we did Carlos, so I think for the stability of the club, it’d surely be better to keep our excellent captain and take the loss when his contract ends - his leadership qualities could prove invaluable for the club in keeping us up.

Ooops my mistake  ....I should have said at EFL2 level.....but I'm sure you knew what I meant. ;)

As for keeping him until his contract expires there is no guarantee that SR will pick him and the indications following Saturday would suggest that SR sees the current partnership as appeared on Saturday the one he prefers. Maybe Saturday will confirm our manager's intentions. The same could apply to Cole who straight after the game was having an exchange of words with the manager....nothing heated... :)

Murphy is only 19yrs old. Either Fulham offer him an improved contract, or he can leave for free.

Assuming (could be a huge 'assume') that Sam is being sold to Blackpool...

If we get [say] £300k for Sam who could leave for free in ten months time, then spend [say] £100k on Murphy, we're getting a player that Fulham actually wanted to keep. As you say, Murphy is similar to Sam, so that's great business.

Or, Fulham haven't offered him an improved contract. We could potentially sell Sam for [say] £300k and sign Luca for free. With the cash from Carlos & Sam, we may be increasing our playing budget substantially.

This potentially would be great business for the players & club.

[Edit: I think he has now been released, so would be a free signing. Can't find definite confirmation though.]

After watching that second half display from them, I really hope Sam is the first name on the team sheet. Both looked uncomfortable at times, especially Delaney.

On Cole, if SR didn’t have him in his plans, why would we have given him a 2 year deal which must’ve been high enough wages to divert his attention away from Bradford?

Keith, I’ve found confirmation of Murphy’s release here: https://www.fulhamfc.com/news/2021/june/Player-Departures/ so that’s promising!

Exciting to be named amongst those other teams, but there's no way he's going to be a replacement for Sam.

He's never even made a senior appearance, unless you count two in the EFL Trophy for Fulham's youth team.

Would be very much one for the future.

Yes, it would definitely put a lot of pressure onto O’Connor and Delaney. Especially when their other backup would be Mensah who is just as unproven as Murphy is.

Alluding to my earlier post, I wonder what price we’d put on Sam’s leadership skills and experience in tough situations. Would we rather keep hold of him for the season to keep the ship steady, in full knowledge that he’s probably ending up at Blackpool next July?

I hope this isn’t a question that’s being deliberated BTS as we prepare for Ipswich, but it’s certainly not impossible.

What we'd rather, is to hear that Sam's signed a contract extension!
