We Stand Together As One

We Stand Together As One

Monday is definitely going to be one of the proudest moments of my life. After supporting the Shrimps through the NPL days, then throughout the Conference Era, into the dizzy heights of League 2 football, the journey has been amazing! There have been highs and lows, but here we find ourselves back at Wembley with a good chance of getting promotion to League 1. Wow!

I first picked up a microphone at Christie Park in 1992 to cover for Steve Middlesbrough. I filled in for him off and on for years and then gradually loosened his grip on the mic as Steve was busy with his business. I think I took over full time around 2004 or 2005. So I have been announcing for 29 years, the last 16 or so full time. There have been many proud moments over the years and many, many goals to announce (which is my favourite bit obviously). Announcing that we are going to Wembley in 2007 was so memorable to me, but the PA was so poor in Conference days that no one could hear me. Ironic or a sign on Sunday that the PA gave up on me and no one (except the Dennison Trailer stand) could hear me announce that we were going back. So what? Who cares? Nobody needed me to tell them. Everyone knew! What a day!

I got a phone call off Derek Quinn on Tuesday and he told me that I had been invited to represent the club and announce the Morecambe team at Wembley on Monday around half an hour before kick off. I can't even begin to tell you what that means to me. What an honour and privilege to represent my club at Wembley were my thoughts.

Then it struck me!

I don't need to tell any Shrimps fan what it means to me as every Morecambe fan is feeling exactly the same! We are all representing our club. Every single one of us. The lucky 4,000 or so fans that are able to get tickets and transport are all going to turn up and do the players, and the fans that can’t make it, proud! They will make as much noise as the 10,000 we were able to take last time. I know they will. The ones that can't make it will be watching with friends or family at home or in a pub. They will be cheering on too and sending positivity to Wembley. The many Shrimps fans from around the world will be wearing their shirts or waving scarves and willing the lads on. We all have our part to play and we will be the best version of ourselves. So will the Directors, the Manager, the players, the backroom staff and Christie the bloody cat! Morecambe FC will project a positive image to the footballing world. We are not little Morecambe any more, we are Morecambe FC and we are proud! No one can take that away from us no matter what the score is. We will collectively give it our all and know we could not have done more. We should all be very proud.

Don't get sucked into a sideshow by a former player. For someone who claims to be in our heads, we are all he is thinking about and talking about. Revenge is never a good motive and any decent manager will see that. Speaking of Managers, how impressive has Derek Adams been this week?

Let’s spend all of our energy focussed on our players and let’s be that 12th man! I can’t wait until Monday. There will be tears of pride before kick off and hopefully afterwards. Bring Me Sunshine! Bring it on! :D

Well said, from the heart matey.
Let’s enjoy the day, get behind the lads the same way as everyone did against Tranmere at home, that’s all we can do. The noise from 1600 was so loud and so positive. Cooney’s first tackle, Lavelle’s first interception in the opening minutes were greeted with huge cheers and applause. A wave of singing from all 4 sides of the ground at the same time made the hairs on the back of our necks stand up while we were talking on IFollow. It was amazing, from every single one of you.

Derek will have prepared them properly, and with the experience a new thing for most on the pitch, including Newport, it’s whoever holds their nerve and plays the game, not the occasion.
It’s going to be a fantastic day! Breath it in, it’s what we all support for, days like these are ones to savour.
Whether you are travelling down, already there, or getting ready to go there and back on the day, wear red, cheer your heart and lungs out. No matter what happens, proud to be from Morecambe and support Morecambe FC.
Up the Shrimps!!! :P

Two eloquent posts from great club men who've stuck with us through thick and thin over the years and do as much as anyone to help the club out.

I know exactly where they are coming from having watched my first game in 68 versus Burnley in the Lancashire Cup Final and seen many hundreds of games since including the two visits to Wembley. It gets under your skin!

Lets be the twelfth man on Monday and roar us on to victory.

Excellent and both penned by some devoted fans who do it all for the love of our club.

Like a few others I will not be at Wembley but I'll be wearing my club colours with pride and watching on the small screen.

Let's hope it's a good day and everybody is a credit to our club.

Whatever the result this season has been memorable for a number of things not least the pride that DA and his players have restored to our club.

Great words.

I'm a relative newcomer, moving to Hest Bank from Manchester in 2009.

Started watching Morecambe regularly around 2012 or so.

I have been so lucky to attend this year as medical cover but gutted that I can't go on Monday due to self isolation of our household.

Morecambe FC is a special club and a real family. I will be watching on Now TV with pride on Monday.
