No, they'd never get planning permission to construct a building on a swamp.

They will want to get the hotel up & running in a few months. Unless they can come up with some design that allows it to be built while MFC sort out the legalities of our move and sort out the sale of Christie Park, they'll find somewhere else. I wonder if Travelodge are the hotel company that the club mentioned might be involved in the new site? Quite likely, the timing's about right, shame we've had to put development back.

Will they fill the Travelodge every night? Yes because people who've travelled a few hundred miles to go to a meeting early the next day won't mind another 10 or so miles to the hotel. If only we had a decent road to get them in & out of Morecambe

if this is true then it is great for the town and the club hopefully it might attract more away supporter to 'make a weekend of it' knowing that there is good hotel accommodation on site also bringing more visitors to Morecambe

Travelodges are typically cheaper at weekends. Ideal for the York's overflow

If their meetings were in Morecambe, then maybe. However I suspect that anywhere else in the area then people would rather stop at the Holiday Inn next to Junction 34.

If you use the likes of the holiday inns, premier travelinns, travelodges, etc you'll know their late cancellation policy means companies block book rooms well in advance then cancel at the last minute, in some cases that's 6pm on day of arrival. That's long after you & I have to make a decision where to stay and frequently I'm 10 or 15 miles away from where I am working. Morecambe will be just another pre-fab box to sleep in somewhere in the north west where tomorrow's meeting will be held. Don't think of them as bringing business to the resort, they might at weekends but weekdays they are mainly used for business travellers.

BTW, that's not a negative opinion, that's fact based on my own experiences in far too many of these hotels.

I'm not so sure Westgate would be a runner for TL. TL's are usually to be found on Motorways and on major routes, not in the middle of a town that, in all honesty is difficult to get to. Then again, if they've changed their policy then it might be a goer. I'll be happy to be proved wrong though.

There are (at least) two Travel Lodges in Warrington, one walking distance from my Regional Office. Westgate is closer to the motorway than the one I stayed in, so perhaps it is just more noticable when they are near motorways?

TLs are everywhere. People will go out of their way to get to them for two main reasons - price and late cancellation notice. That's what business people just adore, cheap accomodation and the ability to cancel when their meeting's cancelled. And they'll drive out of their way to get to those sort of hotels, I do.
