Better since the sub, Carlos gone wide and Phillips in as a 10.

Phillips off for McAlinden, so a bit of change up front.

Carlos with a great pick up on the half way line. He then ran so well, had Stockton & Phillips either side of him. A simple pass either way would be a one on one... No idea what he tried to do but it was awful!

Much better with Kenyon on.

To say we were supposed to be in good shape fitness wise we are looking very labored at 80 mins compared to Grimsby .

We've had the best couple of chances of the second half. A little break would have seen us go ahead.

We've been by far the better team in the closing moments, just missing that final touch

Penalties can be such a crapshoot. Wish we'd finished this in 90'

Both Pringle & Kenyon improved things when they came on...

Wonder how good we are at penalties? Will their young lads feel more nerves? I love/hate penalties... I'll delete one of those in five minutes time!

Thought we started the game really well, looking the stronger team, and created several good chances, with Phillips' goal a beaut! We continued to play well for half an hour, until perhaps defensive complacency and not closing them down enough for them to get their equaliser. They came back into the game then. 1-1 at h/t fair enough, but thought we'd edged it with the better chances. Second half both teams seemed to tire, not surprising with the extended lay-off. MOTM for me was CMG, whose deft touches, fitness and strength were evident throughout the game. Stockton was excellent, as was Knight-Percival, Davis and Turner did well, especially in saving 2 pens. Thought Derek made the right subs at the right times, and good that we still had quality of Lavelle, Wildig and Cooney on the bench. A deserved win in the end. Well done Derek and the lads! A good start to the 20-21 centenary campaign!

Mixed performance for me - some positives but a few concerns. We looked great in attack at the start and were a threat throughout. Thought we lost a bit of composure in attack after the first 10 mins but still promising. Defensively not so great, mainly down the flanks. Thought Davis was excellent (MOTM for me) and Knight-Percival had a good game despite having to pull wide a lot to cover for Hendrie, who I thought had a bit of shocker. Mellor was decent generally but a bit too easy to beat and was really poor for their goal.

Diagouraga a little rusty, but Phillips looked very up for it and O'Sullivan had a solid game. Slew a bit anonymous. CMG had some lovely moments as always but made a few errors as the match went on - I'm sure he'll bounce back from them no problem. McAlinden looked a good option when he came on, and Pringle really helped pull the strings in attack after his introduction. Big shoutout to Kenyon who was brilliant when he came on. Helped tighten us up defensively by offering more cover, and mopped up superbly in midfield. Looked very composed on the ball which was great to see, just a shame that composure left for his penalty

Bit of concern in terms of style in that we panicked a little on the ball sometimes and generally went long way too early which didn't bear much fruit. Grimsby in contrast kept the ball nicely but didn't get forward quick enough. Think we set a good trap letting their CBs have it then pouncing on them in midfield. Great subs from DA that really helped swing the game towards us for the last 20 mins or so.

Penalties (barring Kenyon!) were all excellent - very confident. And great for Turner to save two on his debut for us!
