Game on ??

Game on ??

Postby glagys » Tue Feb 11, 2020 6:30 am

Well with the wind still wild out there and rain forecast for most of the day ( on and off) will there will need to be a pitch/ground safety inspection,

As I believe it's not just the playing surface that's taken into consideration it's the safety of supporters/staff getting to and from the ground that has a factor and
it doesn't look good to get the go-ahead at the moment
Very dangerous out there in the wind

The wind has to considered in respect of whether the game goes ahead.

I put out 2 recycling boxes of papers and plastic etc and they have both disappeared during the night , blown away. I am expecting Greta Thunsberg to tell me I have stolen her childhood !

Will be very very surprised if game goes ahead

Winds at 58mph around kick off

There is more to life than a game of football

Peoples safety is more important

Have to agree; I don't fancy driving down in these conditions so might give it a miss even if it is on.

Tonight would have been an excellent one to run some sort of ticket offer. In this weather how many are going to brave the elements, very few sadly, a discount ticket offer would have added a few to the gate and brought in extra income in the bar. Worth a try.

As for the score well if the match does go ahead Morecambe 2 Macclesfield 0

The weather isn't any worse than the Tuesday night against MK dongs and that game went ahead
So what if the corner flags are bending a little, for both sides........it's game on!

Absolutely bemused as to why the game should be called off, its a windy day FFS!

And if this weather would put you off attending a football match at a stadium which is 3/4 covered and has offering of refreshments etc I would suggest you get a grip.

What sad, moddy-coddled times we live in.

Being such an important game for both clubs then for me the weather has to be considered as with the gale blowing in from the Irish Sea in the force that we have seen over the last couple of days, the game could become nothing more than a lottery and would provide more of a spectacle than a game of skill.

So for me the game has to be called off not only because of the weather playing havoc on the field but also the potential risk to spectators. Not so long ago part of the fascia cladding on the away stand came away in far less windy conditions which fortunately did not result in any injuries but a similar episode could have a different outcome.

The game against promotion chasers MK was a complete farce, from start to finish but the extreme winds were the only reason Morecambe came out of that game with a 4-2 victory.

The FA Cup game against Dagenham went ahead a couple of years ago in worse wind than we've got at the moment. Goal kicks were barely reaching the half way line!

If I don't turn up it's me that loses out financially, not the club, as I already have a season ticket. The problem is the risk from trees being blown over onto the road, my or other vehicles being hit by strong gusts, and slates/tiles being blown off roofs whilst walking from the car to the ground. Do I want to take those risks to watch a game that will be seriously materially affected by the wind or hole up in front of a warm fire?

I don’t totally disagree with some of the points made, but at 7.30am onwards this morning, 1000s of kids headed off to school in Morecambe/Lancaster without a second thought.
I really hope the game is on, we WILL all be there. COYS.

There's absolutely zero chance I'm driving up there in this weather. Hello front room, beers and iFollow.

Using the logic that it's not particularly safe to drive in a car from Manchester, coming from Macc is probably not the wisest idea either.

I'd bin it purely so I can make the re-arranged game.

Fair play,

I came over from the Isle of Man because there were two home games that I could get to.

Initially, I thought I'd be miffed if the game was off, having spent days over here then not getting the second game, when I could have been at home...

...then I remembered that there haven't been any ferries for me to go home on since Saturday, so I'd be stuck here anyway!

Please enjoy all the hospitalities this humble town has to offer, during your enforced stay
I'll be in J.Bs bar around 7 pm if you want that pint I promised and you can even take it upstairs ;)

I don't go in the posh bar much but the last time I did, I looked around and waited for your arrival,
Alas, I left after 15 minutes or so but there's always another time :D

Quite right Potted, Molly Coddled LOL! I've just got in having been outside most of the day. Never once did I feel apprehensive for my safety. Oldham Athletic. Correct me if I'm wrong but didn't a large piece of advertising hoarding come loose on top of one of their stands just before kick off recently due to wind (Boundary Park, now that is a windy hole)! Did they call the game off.....NO, they delayed it, removed the offending item and got on with it. Can I suggest that all the soft ar**s on here get down and support the team in our hour of need, biggest game of the season for me, a real six pointer! Setting off from Burnley now, go on tell me I'm a mad crazy fool for putting my life in danger

Anyone would think we were bloody southerners! 8-)

I just went to Morrisons & Homebase in the wheelchair. Coming back across the market car park, the wheelchair got up to 7.5mph without me propelling it at all, just from the wind! May not sound much, but that speed in a chair, with my arms out, going 'weeeeeeeeeeee' it felt quick!
