Staying up?

Staying up?

Postby Phoenix Shrimp 2017 » Sat Feb 01, 2020 8:06 pm

I think we will with Macc' and Stevenage struggling and the way things are panning out it's looking more critical than ever. Next season could see a heavy Northern bias in L2. Currently mainly Southern teams look favourites to be promoted and 2 largish Northern teams Bolton and Tranmere look favourites to come down. Our old 'friends' Barrow with another win today now look red hot favourites to come up and Halifax are in a prominent position for the NL play offs. Bradford are currently fading out of the L2 playoffs.

So potentially Bolton, Barrow, Bradford, Crewe, Carlisle, Tranmere, Oldham, Scunthorpe, Port Vale, Halifax, Mansfield, Salford, Grimsby and even Walsall as honorary members of the Northern clubs. Potential massive revenue from that lot even if two or three fall by the wayside. Wouldn't like to pay the Policing bill like but would make for a tremendous season atmosphere wise.

The dividend of staying up can't be overstated enough and with more of the kind of signings Derek has been making, along with increased crowds at the Globe.
It has all the potential of being truly great for both the Club and town.

I wonder if these loan signings have been brought in just to do a job for this season and that they will not be guaranteed a squad place at The Globe next season if they find themselves released by their parent club:?:

I think that DA can be quite ruthless and is only looking short term survival at the moment. As and when we are safe this coming close season could well see a complete reappraisal of the playing side in all areas of our club which will make it a very interesting time to be a fan.

:?: :?: :?:

I can’t see where the goals are coming from, it’s only when “AJ Leitch Smith” is playing do we look like scoring.

But unfortunately it was said in a interview “AJ Leitch Smith” isn’t quite fit enough to play a “FULL” 90mins at the moment.

HALMA 1983, in you post you quote about increased crowds. Is there anywhere anyone can look for historic crowds for past games through the years.Or if anyone else knows for that matter. ??

I can only comment from what I've been seeing and how exciting the games have been,
winning games brings in the crowds, If Derek can maintain a decent Home form, then the crowds will get bigger, this, with the improved away followings of more Northern clubs being in the division.
2500 to 3000 a game isn't out of the question and a healthier transfer budget would come of it, hope it happens, as it has a knock on effect for the town as a whole.

Historically” Crowds at this time of year at the Globe Arena do actually decrease, thought that was common knowledge.

After standing on that wall in the p*ssing rain, I can see some of the wisdom but saying that,
It's the only place in the ground where you actually feel totally involved in the game, you're that close, you're virtually on the pitch with the players.

Andy D, I didn't know that, but I wasn't just talking about the Globe, I was going back to crowd sizes at Christie as well, as a lot had said crowd sizes had reduced due to the move.

Crowds have been up all season on previous years, as for staying up, it is very likely nobody will go down, Derek has brought in players to do a job short term, well guess what?.....so far , just like Jim Bentley at Fylde, he hasn't done it, neither of them as yet have got their respective teams out of relegation spots , the only difference is that in league 2 there probably won't t be one.

Average under Jim = 2,285 (incl highest gate of season, 3,899 vs Bradford)
One game for Kev/Barry = 2,691
Average under Derek = 2,223 (incl 2nd highest gate, 3,126 vs Carlisle)

Read into it what you like, that's just the stats!!!

Went to see Halifax this weekend, and caught Harrogate earlier this season as well. Both currently occupying 2nd and 3rd in the table.

Harrogate could really trouble some League Two teams I think. Very fast paced and pressing style, I think it would certainly be an issue for a lot of clubs in this division.

Halifax had some good players, but a lot of poor decision making and bottling against 10 men nearly cost them the win. Their main playmaker was a player called Cameron King who was superb. Very comfortable on the ball, always presenting, good vision and a very hard worker. Contract is up in summer, certainly worth a look at if he comes available I think.

Living in Leeds, I would be absolutely delighted if one of these sides could come up. Overall, it's looking like we should have some more northern teams next season which can only be a good thing.

I'm actually quite surprised at it myself, especially given the change in style of football, but it's early days yet...

Derek will keep us up this year by default, he then has to do it properly for several years or take us up to match Jims record, and as he never played for us he might find it difficult to attain Jims status as a legend.

Take us to League 1 to match Jim's record? Have you found a new tin of paint thinner?

LMFAO. Well this thread has come off the rails completely hasn't it. It all started going Pete Tong when the usual suspects aligned their prams and started bunging toys at each other......again! The original train of thought was in anticipation that we will stop up (maybe, probably, hopefully) and have an exciting 20/21 season with a predominantly Northern L2. Where did it all go wrong (this thread that is, not the relegation battle)!
