None of it came anywhere near to watching the The Shrimps. Still remains the same after more than 50 years!

To be fair to my dad, I think it was his mate who liked going to Blackpool - dad was a Morecambe supporter at heart!

Weren't the cinders sold in the 1980's? Not sure what they would be used for? But it dug us out of a financial hole for a little while.

All you cinder-bankers will remember the dog that 'ran the line' on the far side. It understood the off-side law and would 'freeze', looking across the line. If the linesman didn't give it, she'd hold position for a few moments before looking briefly at the linesman in disgust, and then carrying on! She used to play football with us kids on Lancaster Road school field and I have a vague memory of her being taken on to Christie Park one time, to play with a ball when the opposition's coach had been delayed. Can't remember her name, although I think it may have been 'Shep'?

Shep was my dog. He came from a farm outside Lancaster as a 10 week old bundle of fluff. They gave him to my dad when he sold them a van because the litter was too big and they wanted rid of some. We lived opposite the main gates at Christie so Shep loved the nearby school playing field. We played football with him on there every spare minute we had, he rounded up the ball like it was a sheep. Yes he did get into the ground usually through the fence at the rear and loved to run up and down the touch line by the cinder bank keeping up with play. He was very intelligent and knew not to go on the pitch. The one exception was when the opposition was delayed that time and the Morecambe team were warming up and he ended up on the pitch doing his usual dribbling and heading exhibition. A Visitor photographer took some photos and he ended up as front page news on the Wednesday. Truly amazing dog!

Afraid I'm a bit older than most of you and pioneered the Blackpool path a few years before you but not with my dad. A few of us lads from school in our early/ mid teens used to go to Bloomfield Road and watch Ray Charnley, who we'd seen play for Morecambe, casually score goals with seemingly little effort. Seem to remember that all penalties taken by Ray ended up right in the corner of the net

Left Morecambe in the winter of 1962 so got in some great years dominating the Lancs Combination with Keith Borrowdale before I left, cinder bank, scratching shed and all.

Some of the cinders were shifted to build the squash club and you're right the rest were sold to keep us afloat when times were dire.Like you say I can't remember who to or what for? Presumably the old scoreboard and that concrete toilet block at the back were demolished round about the same time. It was flat on that side for a while. Later came the car wash and concrete terracing. I seem to remember the new terracing appeared just after that big night game against Halifax. I seem to remember Rod mentioning that the gate receipts from that game covered most of the cost of the new terracing.

I'm another one who's dad took him to Blackpool. I'm fairly sure I was at Deepdale sat on the cinder track round the pitch on the night Preston got relegated and Blackpool got promoted. One first division match that sticks in my mind was when Blackpool were 3-0 up against Chelsea and lost 4-3.

First match at Christie was against Congleton about 1960 sat in the old wooden stand with my dad. He took me all over watching matches, Morecambe home and away, Blackpool, Bolton, Preston, 4 matches at Goodison in the 66 World Cup, Leeds v Chelsea FA Cup final.

I started going to Anfield about 1969, it cost us a pound for the day out, that included buses, dinner in John Lewis, programme and entrance.

Bear in mind though I'm 65 now, the memory isn't what it was so all the above could be complete bollocks

This thread has brought back so many memories, I spent last night dreaming of Shep, couldn't get him out of my head. Times were different then and dogs used to be turfed out of the house early doors to come and go as they pleased. Seems hard to believe now but that's what used to happen in the 70's. Shep was no exception and invariably he hung out at the Lancaster Road school playing field to see which local kids were playing football so he could join in. One day he returned home with a bad limp and obviously in pain. Trip to the vet on Lancaster Road revealed he had broken his off fore. The vet set the leg in a plaster cast but it didn't stop him. So desperate was he to get back footballing that he limped around for a couple of months with the pot in place and still managed to play. Slowed him down but it didn't stop him! Typical tough farm dog from good stock!

One first division match that sticks in my mind was when Blackpool were 3-0 up against Chelsea and lost 4-3.

I was at that game too. When Blackpool were one up I started feeling ill and had to be lifted out of the crowd and onto the touchline (I actually passed out). Whilst I was recovering in the St. John Ambulance room, Blackpool scored 2 more. I was well enough to see the second half come back by Chelsea.

I've only ever seen Chelsea twice - 4-3 at Blackpool and 5-4 against Manchester City in the Full Members Cup at Wembley (my mate at the time was a City fan and had a spare ticket)

My dad had a greengrocers round in those days and took one of his wooden crates to Blackpool so that I could see over the wall.

Was there a guy called Harry Baines who had something to do with Morecambe around 1970, I think he might have been a butcher. My dad knew him and that's how we got tickets for the Leeds/ Chelsea final

Harry Baines had a butchers shop on Queen St, he was Chairman at one point.
I also attended the Full Members Cup Final, on a Sunday at Wembley, great game, loads of City had left at 5-1 down but then they threw everybody forward and it was squeaky bum time for Chelsea, they hung on, just!!

Anyone remember the old Lancashire Floodlight Cup from the 60's, one of my early memories of an away trip was a 1-0 win at South Liverpool in this cup.

Another vague memory is watching Blackburn at Christie during the big freeze (1963?) when League football was shutdown for weeks but we let them play a couple of friendlies at Christie. Anyone else remember that or was it all a dream

That was the winter I left for Kent which had 6 foot drifts! If I hadn't left I'd probably have remembered it

Harry Baines also had the butchers on Lancaster Road just up from Christie. I used to work for FMC meats delivering to him and Alan Lamb after him. I remember watching Harry being interviewed by BBC before the Alan Taylor testamonial against West Ham. My boss at the time was Les Taylor who went on to become the clubs Finance Director when we shut down.

Of course, got confused. That's when Harry Baines was interviewed by David Davis of BBC at the school end of the main stand, we had just reached the final at Wembley.

Did you notice the tiny hands of Brian S holding it aloft

I don't remember it being in the shop but may well have been. I also missed holding the FA cup in a neighbour's house.

God yeah - I remember that.....me and my mates climbed out on to the track round the pitch to avoid the trouble, only to be turfed back into the terraces by the police on duty!

Same thing happened to us, pushed back over the wall into the carnage which was happening on the terrace. Bit scary for 15 year old kids. Also remember going into the tunnel under the stand to get out and a huge ruck going on in the concourse. A Police horse then galloped straight into them sending them flying like skittles.The glorious 70's eh? Took your life in your hands at some games!
