Accrington striker Billy Kee has retired from footy aged 29. He has battled and spoken about his mental health issues in the past. Very sad news but lets hope he finds some happiness in his future.

Is the retirement due to his mental health and the pressure of being a professional footballer? Agree, sad news & good luck to him in the future.

So how did that work out then?

Great striker and only 29,
hope he keeps himself busy and talks to others as much as he can,

Going from some of the highs and camaraderie of the dressing room to possibly being isolated would be horrendous, I wish him all the best.

Fantastic striker Billy as been and will be missed

I've been suffering the same things as Billy and it totally rips your life apart

Lots of sad people don't realise how this condition eats away at you .. I've had lots of support but also had lots of people who have laughed at me in the past

I can fully relate to what you're saying John, the world is a very unforgiving place in your mind and locking yourself away is a natural reaction but you can only help yourself by being around others

Thankfully I have found a bunch of happy folk on the Berlin wall and that's helped tremendously 8-)

Good luck Billy, great player at our level and to think he did it whilst trying to fight the demons in his life. Sounds like he has a strong family network in support of him which has got to help.

That sentiment also extends to anyone suffering from similar issues. There is definitely a better understanding of mental health issues nowadays and hopefully support networks are out there to access if times get hard.
