Very random considering how large the squad is.

Well I did say on another thread a few weeks ago that I’d a feeling we will be going for another keeper ;)

Suppose Barry’s playing days are over, he looks part of the coaching set with John McMahon now. ?

I hope Halstead doesn't lose his place as he doesn't deserve to. He makes mistakes as do all keepers but Quality save last night stopped us losing 2 points.

If Mark loses his place then it’s because Mafoumbi has deserved it. Yeah Mark has made some great saves, but the keeper in the better form will start - I don’t wish for Mark to be removed from the starting XI but if Mafoumbi’s better, then it’s for the good of the club

There is no room for sentiment. I agree that Mark is a very capable GK but if this lad is better then he has to play. If Mark wants to be number 1 then he has to be better than the new lad. Healthy competition.

Mmm, Blackpool fans glad to see him go, says a lot, but if he’s competition for Mark, it’s good for them both.

Sorry DA but this is one signing that I simply do not understand the reason for.

I'm sure that goalkeepers are the one position that an emergency loan outside the transfer window can be undertaken.

Mark has stepped into Baz's shoes with confidence and this will surely put questions into his head about just what has he done wrong.. :?: :?: :?:

I understand you want to stamp your own authority on the team but for me Mark deserves better.

In all of your other dealings to date I'm 100% with you but on this one..... :?: :?: :?: sorry... :!: :!: :!:

Why does have to have a negative on Mark? Yes, Mark can be a brilliant keeper, and deserves his place in the current squad. But where are we in the league? How many goals have we conceded? Not all Marks fault obviously, but DA sees a need for a better keeper, at least in reserve on the subs bench. It's the young lad Da Silva Mendez who will have the questions and disappointment. With Barry now in Coaching role, bringing another experienced keeper will both keep competition in goal and be a safe-guard to get us safely through the rest of this season. We don't know the reasons, but we must trust DA knows what he is doing Neil, that's his job.

In fairness , given that Baz has moved "upstairs" , and it now looks like the club are making funds available , why not treat ourselves to a spare keeper, you never know, we might actually "buy" a player or two next!

You have obviously put some serious thought to a well balanced post rr, so you stick with it, nobody should be above question.
The best players should always be on the pitch, for as long as they actually are. DA will make the decisions, then the fans will make theirs.

I expect the Goal Keeping situation with the new Keeper to be like it was 18 months back with Barry and Mark shoulder to shoulder and not much between them.

Basically healthy competition.

We may not be paying much to have him on a short term loan. Derek may be eyeing him up for a contract in Summer if Blackpool are wanting to release him. If we're serious about avoiding relegation, then we need 2 good goalies - if Derek doesn't think the reserve keeper is good enough, then it's better to have someone lined up and ready to go rather than scrapping around for an emergency goalie at short notice if Mark gets injured or is off sick. When we're at the bottom of the league, our league survival may depend on just one good/bad game. People would be calling for Derek's head on a plate if we were relegated by just 1 point or on goal difference due to a thumping loss caused by Mark's absence and the reserve goalie making a few errors.

Don't forget Jim changed his mind about a back up goalie. One season he openly said he wasn't going to get a "proper" backup goalie and would rely on the reserve goalie instead because he'd previously had a back-up goalie who was barely used so thought it was a waste of money. When called upon, the reserve made too many mistakes. Then Jim went back to having a "proper" back up goalie, hence Mark! If the reserves goalie (any season) was good enough, Jim wouldn't have paid to have a backup in Mark for the last couple of seasons.

IMHO in Derek we should trust!

He's been involved at the sharp end of professional football for long enough to give him the edge in decision making over enthusiastic amateurs like us, who turn up to watch 90 minutes of footy every now and again. I'm enjoying what I'm seeing on the pitch and I like the guys persona. There is no room for sentiment in professional football if you want to make a success of it. Derek is very quickly making that clear and it's like a breath of fresh air!

That is the absolute crux of the matter Ken.

“ No room for sentiment,” seems to be the buzz phrase at present, which is true, but “if it ain’t broke, don’t fix it,” is also. We will see what DA decides to do, but Mark has done very little wrong, and imo has played a massive part in keeping us in lge2. It is about playing the best players on the pitch, and if the new signing is better than Mark, then he must be f###ing very good, and will be our no1.

Do we know that as fact? So far, Derek hasn't done much different to what Jim would do at this time of year. We've saved Ken and Lee's wages so presumably that's gone towards our two new signings. We've brought in 3 loan signings (last year Jim brought in similar). Isn't one of the new players being sponsored by the Boardwalk? Surely Flemmo's insurance will have kicked in by now so we'll have his wage free to pay someone else. Derek has made it clear he needs to move on some players to be able to bring in new ones. No evidence at all as yet of the club making extra funds available over what Jim usually had to work with.

Nothing that us “normal” fans are, or ever will be privy to anyway. The actual facts, are known only to the few in the club, that deal with the finance. As it stands, pretty sure there is nothing evidential, that stands up for comparison to previous years. I could be wrong though.

Good to see new players coming in and what a difference it's making, sound investment as its the only surefire way of staying in the football league.

There are no guarantees of staying in the football league - signing players does help but we still need at least another 20 points from last 19 games to have a chance of staying up !!!
