o/t National Cask Ale Week - Press Release

Postby sgt major » Wed Apr 01, 2009 12:09 pm

The York Hotel is joining thousands of other pubs across the UK, as they try to break the world’s biggest toast in honour of Britain’s national drink, cask ale, at 7pm on Saturday 11 April 2009. (The Cumberland View and the George are also participating - dont know about the toast though)

The landmark event is part of week-long festival, National Cask Ale Week, which is taking place from 6 to 13 April 2009.

The York Hotel licencee, Mick Dennison said: “We are great supporters of cask ale and are looking forward to celebrating it during National Cask Ale Week with a host of events. Going for the World’s Biggest Toast is a fun way to get the people of the Lancaster Road area supporting their local at the same time as rallying behind Britain’s national drink. It is a fresh product containing live yeast and bursting with character and flavour: it’s what makes the pub unique – and there will plenty of people willing to drink to that! (Currently Cask Ale is NOT available at stupid prices in supermarkets)

"In order to make the world record official we need two witnesses and as many people as possible to visit our pub on Saturday 11 April to show their support for cask ale."

Witnesses need to be over 18 years old and to be at the York Hotel at 7pm on Saturday 11 April. To register your interest to be a witness for National Cask Ale Week’s, World’s Biggest Toast, visit www.caskaleweek.com.

National Cask Ale Week is taking place from 6 to13 April and will see thousands of pubs and breweries throughout the UK staging a range of activities from beer and food matching to free tastings, including (In the York) trying to encourage ladies to "Test Drive a Cask Ale". On any day next week you can ask to test any of the Ales on offer and on Wednesday there will be a Beer and Food Night

For further information please contact Mick Dennison using the contact details on the York website. www.yorkhotelmorecambe.co.uk

NB: The world record for the Biggest Toast currently stands at 485,000 people.
Join us for a great night out and help us to break the record.

Whenever someone mentions 'Real Ale' it always conjours up an image of beardy blokes with knitted jumpers.

Believe it or not there are more than a few pubs in Philadelphia offering cask ale and at that time on Saturday I will be in the pub with my Saturday morning league team. Coincidentally, they are one of the pubs who always have at least one cask ale on.

I shall raise a cask conditioned pint with the lads from the team so you can add at least ten more to your number, Mick. (Only ten and not 11 or more because we have a few muslim lads, by the way)

When I was in Townsville in 2002, I went with a bunch of lads who were quite a bit younger than me to a lap dancing club.
Well they were really into the entertainment and I was a bit bored, so I excused myself and across the road was a small pub with a folk band in it.
I went in there and they had cask ale, I had a couple of pints and enjoyed the music so much that I ended up at a party on the beach singing and playing guitar around a huge fire until about 4.00am.
Cask ale, folk bands, Aspers in Paradise.
