Some great points made in this thread. I wish Luton the best, except for the 90 minutes that we meet. If they can take heart from anything, it is the experience of Doncaster and how a period in non-league allowed them to re-group and come back stronger.

Mick himself ignored his own suggestion and sang some going down songs! you can't expect the youngs un's to refrain from singing the going down songs if the older generation don't even go along with their own suggestion!

I think your missing the point. I too have no problem with the going down chants, I sang them too. My point was that Mick began this thread yet sang the songs too. very hypocritical IMO

And yes it's a game of footy, a certain amount of freedom of speech is the way it should be. If i choose to join in that's my decision.

Searching through HMs posts, I see no reason to think he would hate Luton. So to say that is very strange...

In fact in one of my previous posts i actually stated that we should not just respect luton but every club

After a very heavy weekend I feel I need to speak out about this subject.

It's well known that the York is THE place to meet up with away fans before the game and the match with Luton was no exception.

They arrived in numbers and were a very friendly bunch (in the main) and spoke candidly about their situation. I actually mentioned the respect theme to them and although they were happy about it they also said they have heard every song going and nothing fazes them anymore - sing away they said it's just banter.

To be honest and I personaly didnt start any chants (shithouse rumours again!), the chants started later in the game when most of us realised Morecambe could not hit a barn door with a banjo. At no time did I detect any malice in the songs in fact it was more ironic sarcasm than anything else.

After the game there was great banter whilst watching the England game with the Luton fans except for a few people who told us we had no history and were a team full of cloggers. This was disputed by a few Morecambe fans but there was no bother and we all got on through the rest of the night - many stayed on to watch the live band.

Lets be fair - this was Morecambe v Luton -no history of games - no local rivallry and no malice from the minute the teams took to the pitch. That small isolated bit of banter at the end is nothing for anyone to get stressed about.

Can I just say another thing to the people who sort of have it in for me.

If it wasnt for the likes of Carlisle Paul, Mick Birch and me there probably wouldnt be too much singing of anything on the North Stand as we try to bring on the young uns - it just seems the apathy that spreads around this town flows onto the North Stand as well.

FFS - I bet there were people scratching their fingers on their keyboards when they heard the innocuous chants - also the volume level was so low I bet the Luton fans didnt even hear them.

Come on folks we are football fans not a knitting circle - we DID respect Luton before and after the game and were very restrained during it - maybe if the team had been fired up more we wouldnt have even bothered with those ironic chants.

Finally - all those folk that support prima donna Premiership teams - would their fans give a toss about anyone else but thier own team - I think not!
