Team Selection

Team Selection

This is not a Bentley out post. I believe we are in a life or death struggle for survival and we need to fight this together- management, players and fans. However, there are some glaring weaknesses in the team that need sorting out. A striker must be found in the transfer window and a reliable, fit midfielder. Another area of concern is the goalkeeping position.Teams clearly when they play us encourage their midfield players to take shots at goal from distance knowing we are vulnerable to low shots from distance. It's time this was addressed. Barry Roche has been a brilliant goalkeeper for many years but in my opinion he is now vulnerable and slow to get down to shots from distance. This is now costing us dearly and Mark Halstead has to be given a chance to show what he can do. Certainly continuing to do what we do currently is not going to save us. Changes are needed in the team.

Great post !.
Can't see Halstead being given a chance, until we are cut adrift and all out of other options.
Players POY, and nowhere near ousting Big Baz. Can see us losing him to a loan in January, although by then it may be all academic anyway !.

I thought Baz was better yesterday but still a bit on edge coming for crosses. He is far from dominant in that 6 yard box. Having seen it again, the 2nd was very soft. It trickled past Baz

Problem for me with JB and his Assistant is their apparent reluctance to change style of play and an unwillingness of trying other players when the current players are under performing.

Yesterday they refused to act quickly enough to changing a strike force that was not at the races. When they did they opted for the same old same old rather than giving Howard a chance to make a name for himself.

As for changing the style of play, our corner routine is so predictable; always the ball to the far post and beyond. The opposition are now wise to that and set up their defensive positioning accordingly. I noticed how Bradford altered their corner routing numerous times, something that JB and Co appear not to even consider.

And as others have suggested it's time for Baz to accept that his form isn't how it was and put the interest of the team and club first by volunteering for Mark to replace him; unlikely but one can live in hope.

It's not up to Baz to volunteer  it's up to Jim & co to make the decision.

You don't think "same old same old" made a massive difference when he came on? He came within a whisker of scoring himself and was involved in everything good for the rest of the game. If anything, it's a shame "same old same old" didn't come on sooner!

Were we at different games? We had two short corners and a pass to the near edge of the penalty area routine. So that's four different routines in six corners. How much more variation do you want? And to be honest, I'd rather we did just stick with trying to put it on Lavelle or Old's head in the six yard box every time! I'd love to see stats, but I'm sure short corner routines produce less goals than just getting it in the box.

So how did that work out then?
