December 2000. FA Cup 2nd Round beat Cambridge Utd (then in League 1) 2-1.
I would pick this match as arguably a turning point in the club's history. Why?
The victory put us in the 3rd Round and the historic match v.Ipswich which brought us priceless publicity, but more importantly than that it sowed the seed that we could become a bigger club than we were at that time, i.e.eventually a league club IMO.

Am I right in thinking that the win over Cambridge was the first time we had beaten a league club since beating Chester back in '62?

That was going to be my home choice and for the same reasons that you mentioned.
Away, Wembley obviously. Then Wembley again... 8-)

The real choice of away game for me was Lancashire Junior Cup at Deepdale, v Chorley. Our first success after so many grim years. 2-1 down and out, well into stoppage time when we grabbed a dramatic equaliser, then won in extra time.

So how did that work out then?

Although, this was pretty special too. Hope Barnet survive. Could you imagine anything similar if we'd played Chester in our first Football League match?

Perhaps we could arrange something appropriate for our friends from the south, Barnet, when they visit us again on 14th March. That was a fantastic thing to do in August '07 and it is certainly one of my favourite memories of Christie park, their banner! :)

Purely based on entertainment value:

5-3 win over Chester last season and the 5-3 win over Kettering many years ago, perhaps during our first season in the Conference? Think Johnny Coleman scored three and Ian Cain was immense. I remember being unable to decide after the game which one I thought was the best player ever to kick a ball! I also remember trying to convince some of bemused school mates that Coleman and Cain should and could be in the full England squad! The naivety of youth!

Swindon away in the FA cup was a fantastic atmosphere - the best I have seen barring Wolves - played them off the park and then gave a penalty away late on - both the fans and the team were awesome that day and it really got me convinced that we could mix it at a higher level - if we carry on as we are doing with this run I think we might have another game or two to add to this list!!

I don't see matches like the rest of you, blinkered vision through the lens which often means chatting to other photographers to find out what all the fuss is about when a roar goes up.

My favourite day has to be Wembley 2007. From watching everyone getting on the coaches at Christie Park, rushing through to Lancaster to catch our coach, the pre-match atmosphere, the game, Kipax shaking my hand and saying Welcome to the Football League at the final whistle, the journey home, meeting everyone again at the service station and a pint in the York to end the day. Surpasses any other football day.

Choose any from the following:

1. Wolves (PSF Home): 6-1.

You have to bear in mind that Dave Jones had intended to bring only half his squad and the other half was going to Kettering. In the end, due to bad weather in the Midlands, he brought the full squad up. Admittedly a few of their first teamers didn't play but their side, newly in the Premiership included the likes of Oleg Luzhny and Paul Ince. At 3-0 they brough on some subs, mainly reserves, who were a bit more hungry and quickly brought in back to 3-1. So we brought on our kids Jonathan Smith, Paul Lloyd etc. and promptly battered them.

2. Wolves (LC Away): 3-1

We were much better, in my opinion, than against Preston NE. A truly incredible atmosphere and while PNE was good and Wembley brilliant for me this was the greatest ever feeling I've had at a Morecambe game. Still unbeaten since my little boy Liam was born.

3. Woking (Conf away) 6-0

We played well first half but 0-0 and then in the second half everything we touched just came off. Marked the emergence of Danny Carlton as a striker.

4. Hull City (FAC home) 0-1

I know we lost but a/ we were robbed because Tommy Miller scored and b/ it was a turning point for the club because we knew that after years of crowds of 300 or so we could attract a crowd again if we produced the goods on the pitch.

5. Margate (FAT away) 1-0

Thommo's incredible cross for Johnnie Norman to smash home was an absolutely sublime moment on a gorgeous evening in Kent.

6. Crawley Town (Conf away) 3-1

Dressed as cowboys. Perks only competitive goal for Morecambe FC; knocked his tooth out celebrating; gave him an inflatable cactus to mark the occasion; superb day out; and the Crawley bar was like one out of Dodge City, 'we don't like strangers in these parts' but we didn't care.

7. Southport (Conf away) 2-1

They were fourth in the Conf and we were mid-table. We were pretty shit for most of the match and Carl Baker was orchestrating things for them. Drenchy made a hatful of saves and they hit the post, I think, twice but only trailled 1-0. We managed to equalise with a header by Blackie that was at least three feet over the goaline nodded back in for Jimbo to finish. Then a good run from Yatesy, that looked like a cross sneaked in at the far post. We hung on for the win. Southport went on the greatest losing streak in history and got relegated and we went to get promoted to the Football League. Merry Christmas!

8. Exeter City (Conf PO Final) 2-1

What else.

9. Fleetwood Town (NPL home) 3-3

Three down with the wind blowing at 50 mph. Second half 3-3. All on a pudding of a pitch in front of about 450. A very entertaining game for all the wrong reasons and a realisation that things were only going to get better.

Memories, the mind does play tricks doesn't it.

We beat Margate 2-0 with Norman scoring the second with a free kick, curling round the wall and it was Jimbo heading the ball back from out of play for Blackie to score against Scouseport.

I remember that Fleetwood game, sat in the stand as it was that cold and rainy as we had no North Stand then!
Happy days.
