The Morecambe Rd /Ovangle Road roundabout only works because people disregard the rules and let traffic out coming down Morecambe Rd past the College. Pretty sure that when you come to a roundabout junction you are meant to give way to the traffic already on the roundabout coming from your right. It only works due to people either squeezing their way onto the roundabout or people letting them on.

Please Mark S, tell me which lane I should be in at the 2-roundabout farce on Torr Rd/Scale Hall Lane/West Drive fiasco thingy??

I now carry an up to date copy in my cab at all times, well several actually, so i can throw them at people that obviously don't read the latest copy!! (just kiddin!!) (or am i?)

At double mini-roundabouts treat each roundabout separately and give way to traffic from the right.

I just take it that it gives written instruction for the first exit to the left,
a picture illustration for going straight on
and again, written instruction for turning right or going full circle,
and any other exits its a case of shut your eyes, blow your horn and keep your fingers crossed, not too sure about that last bit though, i might have dreamt that.

The picture illustrates 185 which doesn't mention how to position yourself on the approach to a roundabout. If I'm heading down morecambe road approaching the Shrimp roundabout from Lancaster Road or Broadway, I use the lane from where I've approached i.e. Broadway on the left, Lancaster Road on the right. Doesn't matter which I use, there's always someone who thinks they know better.

I'll never forget my fun at the Magic Roundabout in Swindon a few seasons ago.
I along with quite a few others just 'went for it', in the belief that if somebody went into the side of me...it was their bloody fault!

Talking of roundabouts, what about the new one on the bypass,i see a lot of vehicles going across it rather than round, looks like that one is waitng for an accident to happen.

They've made the roundabout's central reservation too big Sam.

I've followed wagons with very long loads on, having no choice but to run over the grassed area to be able to get around the thing.

Lot's of thought gone into that, not!

A road leading to a port and an industrial area, having a roundabout too small for some wagons to get around...

I don't think there IS a right or wrong at the Shrimp (going from Broadway to Morecambe Road).

It's the third exit but looks like it's straight on-ish.

I usually try to get over into the right hand lane but if that manoeuvre is difficult because of traffic I stay in the left then merge.

I once asked an "advanced driving" instructor what the correct procedure is at the Shrimp and his answer was along the lines of - pick your lane, stay in it (or get in it safely) and be aware of all traffic around you, merge at the other side by keeping aware, proceeding carefully and indicating where appropriate.

If it's not clear which lane you should be in, that's pretty good advice I reckon.

On the original post - I reckon if someone isn't hurt on the crossing, we'll certainly see someone's car rear-ended as they stop and the car behind them doesn't expect there to be another crossing straight after the first one.

I saw it for the first time this weekend, unbelievable. It'll be a local that has the first accident, they'll be the ones that think they know the area and don't read the new zebra crossing sign.

There's also another debate that says there are so many signs everywhere these days that we have started to ignore them.
