Interesting that the name has been ruled out already, I wonder what the rationale for that was? I would have quite liked that to maintain our links with our heritage, but then "The Sainsbury Stadium" with an even bigger wedge of money would be more useful?

I don't think there was ever an intention to keep the name for the ground. The approach road was named Christie Way in the early artist impressions and I think the club decided to name the mascot Christie the Cat to maintain the link with JB Christie.

Will the Christie Park name be used in some capacity by Sainsbury's?
Eg. "Welcome to Sainsbury's at Christie Park" ....or as part of the store address? It'd be a shame if the name was lost forever.

Unless some concerned fans got together and bought the naming rights, or unless the well-known auctioneers and valuers got the rights, then the club would be turning away tens of thousands of pounds in order to maintain a nice bit of history.

I think Mr Christie would tell them they were daft to do that - he had the interests of the club at heart and contributed to its financial situation pretty astutely.

Like everyone, though, I do hope (and believe) that the club will mark the great man's memory in some appropriate way.

It'll be named after a sponser - if not Sainsburys then somebody else. Personally, I'd prefer a stupid sponsers name that comes with a load of money though.

I agree that it would be stupid NOT to take a sponsorship name, in which case I'd prefer a statement along the lines of "it won't be called Christie Park because we will be looking to maximise sponsorship income"

Don't get me wrong, I'm not being negative, I just thought it was a curiously 'half' statement. "The Sainsbury Stadium" has a decent enough ring about it... The *KERR-CHING* of the till also has a nice ring about it!

One of the reasons for introducing Christie the Cat was to maintain a link to the old ground when we move.

I'd like, as someone suggested when plans were first announced, for there to be a 'permanent' name for the ground, as well as the corporate sponsored name (eg Ashburton Grove/The Emirates Stadium). As long as the corporate name isn't too cheesy or ridiculous sounding of course. We want to keep our dignity.

Not to be funny, but IMO "The Sainsbury's Stadium" doesn't accurately reflect in the same way as the 2 aforementioned arenas. It just infers a massive version of Sainsbury's!

Also I don't like the usage of the word 'arena', for us at least. Darlo and MK Dons could just about get away with calling their places such, but not us. To be honest I think it would make us sound wanting to be modern for the sake of it, as if the building reflected Chester's ground. If you see what I mean.
