Large number of first team set to start for Reserves tonight

Postby quinny » Wed Jan 14, 2009 1:20 pm

Shrimps' boss Sammy McIlroy has confirmed that he will be fielding a strong side for the Reserves' clash with Tranmere at Christie Park on Wednesday night.

The Shrimps face Rovers in a totesport.com League Cup game, kick off at 7pm. Tranmere are also set to name a strong side with players from both sides keen to get some valuable match fitness after the recent freeze.

Admission is £4 for adults and £2 for concessions with season ticket holders free of charge.

Entire first team started with MrT in for drummy.

1up in first 5 minutes then 1-1 after about 15.

H/T 1-1

Blinks on for Rene
Arts on for McStay
Scotty on for Roach

Tranmere go 2-1 thanks to a terrible Jimbo back pass

Then 2-2 thanks to Fraser having a shot (unlike his colleagues!)

Then 3-2 to Tranmere with a header from inside the 18 yard box...unchallenged.

I left early so that's all I know.

Well its worked before, when we got promoted to the Conference and we were behind or not even looking like we could score, we used to urge Polly to go to the bar and as soon as he wasn't watching we'd score and he'd always be worried he was some sort of jinx.

That is Tranmere's full reserve team, i thought they may have put a few first team members out as they too have had their game called off at the weekend but nevertheless a win is a win and lets hope we can take that fitness into the game on Saturday

I thought Blinkhorn did well when he came on showing a bit of pace he is quicker than I remember. Artell did well when he came on for McStay and Fraser worked really hard in the middle of the pitch and Taylor always seems to be in the right place to take his chance.

I am sure I saw one of our players walking with a nasty limp after the game think it might be McStay but couldn't see properly, might be a doubt for Saturday.

Good result and a good run out for some of the first teamers, though it is a little concerning we conceeded 3 against a reserve team. But to score 5 of course takes my mind off it
Get over it ;)

An enjoyable game, I sometimes think I enjoy watching the ressies more than the 1st team :o

Because,

The players seem more relaxed and therefor sometimes play better football.

Theres usually lots more goals

Les is better on the tannoy than Mark S

North Stand Shrimp isn't blowing lots of balloons up in my face

No one really cares that much about the result so not gutted if we lose like at a 1st team game.

And finally I can get in JB's for a 1/2 time pint ! ;)

Pretty much agree with you there - it was a relaxed, entertaining evening, although somewhat chilly :!: Hope they did'nt cut the grass up too much, twas getting a bit muddy

Don't think Mark S could get away with saying " there is 2 minutes of added time on the board but we have already played one!" Nice one Les
Enjoy yourself.... It is later than you think
