Kendal Town pre season match

My daughter had the "misfortune" of winning us a 5 day stay at that Pontins Holiday Camp some years ago.

It hadn't changed much or been upgraded since the filming of that "Comedy" classic either.....!!

Now, "stop lounging about and get that bus to the Cemetery Gates"

Part time supporter   Only kidding mate !!

I know the Porthmadog ground well. Next door to the Pontins Holiday Camp where they filmed Holiday On The Buses in the early 1970's.

Bet it's "made your day that has" that little snippet of info !!

Doesn't look like there's a holiday camp there anymore though... just open fields and a bypass!

Cracking bar on the ground too (Finney's) from where (if the weather is typically Kendalian, ie raining) you can stand at the bar windows which give you a superb elevated view of the full pitch.

Aye remember the thunder and lighting a few years back in a pre season game there and having to paddle through several inches of rain to get back to the car.

Wondering which kit we'll be wearing.

We're in red and black stripes while Kendal are black and white stripes.

Sky blue then??

Well when Newcastle play at home to Sunderland they both play in their stripes but Sunderland wear white shorts instead of black, so Shrimps could do that.

Nice little ground with a stunning mountainous backdrop. Entertaining game despite the home side losing 3-1. I reckon I'm the first Morecambe fan to wear a red and black striped shirt this season... 8-)

There was one tonight while watching Morecambe in their 1st game of the pre season, we all asked him to turn around - then the Morecambe town badge appeared. His Dad bought it for him years ago and it was far too big for him - fits now!

I forgot to mention also how well former Shrimps Reserve 'keeper Will Kitchen did for Kendal when he came on as a second half sub. Some superb saves from him.

I know I'm getting on but Will Kitchen didn't look old enough to be allowed out so late to play!

I hope we play more pre-season games up there as a lovely ground, hopefully with Stringy and Swanny being mates of Jim's it will happen.
