Squad Numbers

Squad Numbers

For those who are interested in this sort of thing, looks like Jamie Devitt has taken Jack Redshaws number 7 shirt and Aaron McGowan is now number 3.

Of the new signings Dugdale is 5, Murphy 8, Barkhuizen 9, Molyneux 10 and Wildig 15.

Nathan Bondswell also switched to number 14. Jack Kelleher is 27 and Charlie Bailey is 18.

This topic has stirred my memory back to the seventies when there were no squad numbers just 1 to 12(1 sub).
Does anyone recall a match when Morecambe deliberately changed the numbers around to fool the opposition so the defenders wore numbers 8 to 11 and the midfield and forward players wore 2 to 7?

I cannot recall the match or the year involved but I am sure it happened.

If it was late seventies or early eighties... no.

So how did that work out then?

I think it was mid seventies cause I remember Geoff Street was playing and a few from the Trophy winning team so sometime from 1974 to 1977 ish. Perhaps someone could ask Geoff if he remembers the game. It was such an unusual thing to happen in those days as every team stuck rigidly to 1 to 11 from keeper to left winger.
