Sad news - Sean O'Connor RIP

A true Morecambe fan through and through. He said what he saw and thought, even though he may not have met with the approval of everyone, but at least he was straight talking.
He did a brilliant job when commentating for The Bay over a period I think of about 12 years.
He has been through the mill over the last few years with illness, but will be sadly missed by many.

Far be it for me to suggest a tribute, but, could I please suggest to Morecambe FC that as Sean was an avid Morecambe AND Liverpool fan that we have a minutes applause / silence prior to the forthcoming friendly v Liverpool??

What a shock I spoke to him a few months back and while the diagnosis wasn't good he said he has been given some new medication which might prolong things for a year to eighteen months.

His drunken rants were epic.

Heard about this from a mate earlier today; very sad news and a shock despite Sean having been ill for quite some time.

He did a great job improving the match day programme over the many years he was involved as its editor. Obviously he has been seen less frequently at MFC home games over the last couple of years since the club decided to freshen up to programme and go in a different direction. Clearly this wasn't handled very well. Although he was still interested about what was going on at the club and certain people who work there that he thought highly of, he was less complimentary about others and often came across as slightly bitter towards MFC and lashed out at people on social media (understandable given his condition). This was a shame, because he had many friends that he met through the football club that he lost touch with.

If you thought his rants were tasty on here, you should have bought him a couple of ciders at the club bar after a game when he would really let loose! Will remember him fondly from some of The Sardines on Tour trips, he was always approachable and had an opinion on most things, particularly Morecambe FC.

I hope the club does look to do something to mark the contribution he made over a number of years.

I suppose we will never find out who the next 'secret weapon' is!

Some great posts here, I am sure he would have been pleased with the recognition. Remember the great away trips in the back of the Indies bus from the York Hotel. When he got going with Blackpool Shrimp and others it was great to listen to.
Was quite a Motty when talking about MFC, particularly when we were at Christie Park and he would always put you right.
Always proud of his matchday programme which he put hours and hours in to, he naturally wasn't pleased when his tenure came to an end.

Very sad news about his illness and never saw much of him in the last few years. Far too young to go through all that.

Condolences to his family and thanks Sean for some very happy days and Northern Soul nights

RIP Sean .. Taken far too young. Enjoyed many times chatting MFC and all things football with him and his panic texts/ phone calls for my youth page programme copy back in the day! So sad he didn't attend the Globe much these last 2/3 seasons...

Sad news indeed. Spent many hours in Sean's company at games and on long trips up and down the country.

Very sad news. Sean spent many happy times watching Lancaster City and the Shrimps and was an enthusiastic supporter of both.
Producing the programme and commentating on the Bay and Player all came under his banner with humour and hard work. RIP.

Very sad indeed.
My family has known Sean's for many years an my thoughts really are with them and Sharon.
His End of an Era programme against Aldershot was an absolute classic and he was a massive help when we first introduced the Player commentaries, often fighting against the terrible technology of the original suppliers.
This is a terrible disease that has taken another good person far too young.

I only met Sean on a couple of occasions and what struck me was his enthusiasm for most things football. He helped me out in Morecambe's first 'football league' season when I managed to collect all the match programmes (Home & Away) and I couldn't of done it without him. He did a lovely article in the match programme about the collection.

A really nice guy. Rest in peace Sean.
