Just tweeted:

Thanks to everybody @ShrimpsOfficial for the past couple of years I've loved it. All good things must come to an end.

Sorry Jimbo but find this news difficult to understand. :o

For me he's always stepped up to the plate and has scored some very crucial goals during his time with us.

Just hope that you've got a suitable replacement lined up. I've got a horrible feeling that he could come back to The Globe (or whatever it is next season) and haunt us....

Just a further point about Amond...it could be of course that Jimbo saw something in Shaun Tuton the lad from Buxton during his trial and that he COULD be a replacement who COULD in time prove to be a more valuable player in terms of extra money into the coffers.

He's just completed a trial with Luton and it sounds as though he impressed during his time there.

Perhaps Podge himself asked to be released due to him not being a regular starter at this stage in his career?

By the sounds of it on twitter he would have liked to have stayed and doesn't currently have a club lined up that he's turned us down in favour for.

Confirmed as Jim's decision:

Cheers Podge, hope you get sorted.

Would expect him to be playing League football next season, unlike others who find themselves playing at a lower level.

Quite clear that Jim will have to offload before anyone can come in which makes sense

Brave move by Jim. Podge may not set the world alight, but he's consistent with 10 goals per season. (similar to Kev, Redshaw and Mullin). Jim must have a few names in mind to replace him who can guarantee at least 10 goals for similar money! Let's hope Jim can secure a better replacement.

Sad to see him go. A true poacher but I guess he wasn't entirely happy starting only 20 games a season. All the best finding a new club.

I think having 4-5 strikers is a bit of a luxury for our budget so maybe best to lose a couple and spend that money on some decent midfielders instead.

Big gamble in my opinion, as he has provided double figures every season with comparatively less game time and quite often being played out of position.

Jim must have someone lined up as you wouldn't risk letting someone like Podge go otherwise. I just hope it isn't Barkhuizen.

Good luck wherever you go, Podge.

Very sad about Padraig.

A crafty player and very honest lad who gave his all for Morecambe and must have been frustrated by his lack of starts. As someone else said he's an annual double-figures striker and will be snapped up quickly I'm sure.

However, sentiment aside, I'm sure Jim will be looking to improve even on that and his recruitment policy has benn very good in the last few years.

Thanks Podge for some cracking goals - all the very best wherever you end up -
preferably not back at Accy though !

one positive is, if this means Paul Mullin gets more time on the pitch, then happy days.

I really wish him well and like others have said, I think he'll be playing at L2 level next season, and yes I can also see him scoring against us, and probably for Accrington Stanley
