Can anyone tell me if we signed Barry on a permenant contract or a season long loan, if it was the latter i think the club should get him signed up asap.

Certainly not a loan and the way that he's impressed both Sammy and the fans I'd be suprised if new contract negotiations are not already under way or at the very least inthe very near future.

agreed . Barry is the best permanently signed keeper I have seen at Christie and I vaguely remember Ken Udall and Lance Millard and also John Coates.

He's good but not in the same category as Lance Millard. Now he was a real character. One of the first goalkeepers ever to wear an all yellow kit!

Thats good news, i think Barry is an excellent shot stopper and his penalty saves this season are second to none, although i would like to see Barry come and take more crosses and dominate his six yard box a little more than what he does.

It's very hard comparing players from vastly different eras and from times when we were playing at completely different levels of football.

They are/were both good keepers.

It's true you can't compare, but Lance Millard already holds legendary status in the club's history. A big character in a big frame.

As for Barry Roche I think most would agree he is exceeding our expectations if we were to believe the noises coming from the Chesterfield fans. He's an excellent keeper at this level and has been one of our top signings this season.

Barry Roche has been great so far this season, and such is his influence that my nine year old wanted to be right behind the goals v.Darlington so he could watch how the great one performed, not just his saves but positionong, organising defenders etc. as my son wants to be a goalkeeper when he grows up.......
it says something when the Christmas list includes not goalkeeping gloves by Reina or Van der Sar but "Dad, can you get me Barry Roche's gloves?". Now that's Christmas and that's magic!! :)
