Telford/Southport record attendance + a certain player

Postby nobbyshrimp » Mon Dec 08, 2008 6:08 pm

AFC Telford had another good attendance at weekend against high flying Southport after yet another excellent 'free tickets to schools' worked brilliantly. You can't tell me it doesn't work as the atmosphere is totally different and extra revenue is generated in other ways(bar, take-away, programmes, car park, 3 points ;) ).
This is the highest attendance for any Blue Square North game and I totally agree with these incentives.
Whether you agree with this or not is a matter for debate but read this article because there is special praise for a certain Southport player ;)

I was browsing Portchat on sunday and he was recieving rave reviews for his performance saturday. You have to hand it to Southport, they bring through some good players. Duffy, Noon, Baker, and that Kilheeney, who i seem to remember there was a brief mention of on here in the summer is banging them in for them also.

I tell you what, I have just stumbled accross this on the Port web site and it includes a video of the Telford game. Take a look. It might be slightly biast towards Telford, I'm not sure but what a bloody good game of football by them who are bare in mind 2 leagues below us at present. And is it me of does Duffy look a bit of a light weight?

Makes you wonder what they would do gate wise if they ever get league status.

Incredible!

What a great advert for BSN! Always liked the Telford setup before they went bust. Good luck to them. Would have been nice to see some more Southport attacks! Oh and i hope the new Bentley snr stand gets better treatment than the current hutchin on one!

It shows what a new ground can do for a club.
When Morecambe first joined the conference,Telford was one of the lowest supported teams in the league.

One other thing though Hodgie - Telford were a giant of non-league football and probably are still more better known than Morecambe ever will be. And they have Villa, Wolves and Brum on their doorstep.

I actually agree with you both. The ground certainly has increased attendancies for Telford as it has for their local rivals Shrewsbury who's attendance must have increased on average by about 1000 since they moved. Telford always have been a well respected none league club but even more since the new stadium was built as the facilities are excellent. These facilities are what have attracted the better players because Telford don't offer big money as they haven't got it. I don't see the fact that Wolves/Brum/Walsall etc etc on the doorstep as being in anyway a good thing for Telford as alot of fans travel to these other clubs and Telford certainly don't get any offer of loans from them. My god it only seems like 5 minutes since we were in the Conference with Telford along side Cheltenham, Hereford, Doncaster, Yeovil, Barrow etc. In fact it is probably 10 years (ish) so for you younger ones who don't remember just have a look at some of these club names who were all in the GM Conference together not long ago and the year Doncaster went up into the league we actually finished above them as runners up. Think Cheltenham went up about 9 or 10 years ago and Telford busted out of the Conference about 4 years ago - roughly (can't be bothered to work it out). Are, Memories!

On the other side of the coin Telford don't own Bucks Head due to what happened with their previous Chairman. We will own our new stadium.

I also think a lot of the contractors who built Bucks Head didn't get paid when it all went pear shaped.
