What is the point of our kick off?

What is the point of our kick off?

We had 4 center kicks last night, one to begin the half and 3 others because of goals we conceeded.
What i want to know is what goes through Drummonds mind when they lay it back to him and he launches it to their right back who casually controls and they gain possession. I wouldn't mind if it was planned but everytime nobody from our team was even close to getting on the end of it. Why not just pass it back keep the ball, give time for our own players to get into their half and then maybe play a long ball or just carry on with short passes. Nothing too technical it just annoyed the hell out of me when he did it 4 times in a row!
Get over it ;)

This isn't new. We've been doing this ever since Sammy took over. It used to be a punt towards the wing where Thommo or Wayne would usually over power the opposing full back and head it back towards goal where our strikers / midfielders would then contest the 2nd ball.

It doesn't quite have the same affect when them two aren't playing.

Didn't we used to punt it out of touch down in their corner like rugby union tactics to gain yards on the pitch and field position.
