The National Name Game

The National Name Game

Postby Aal » Sun Nov 16, 2008 2:42 pm

As a little lad I always thought it was weird that a Spurs player called Mike ENGLAND was actually Welsh. I also recall Alan BRAZIL a Scottish international now a newspaper columnist.

Yesterday it became apparent that National surnames are still alive and well....

Jason SCOTLAND scored for Swansea (A Welsh team)

Gary WALES scored for Raith Rovers (A Scottish team)

Can anyone recall any other National surnames who played professional football? Perhaps even one who has played for Morecambe?

If you can't think of any real ones you can just make one up, like Craig Equatorial Guinea or perhaps Jack SWEDEN

This isn't national as such, but in the 70s Why would a player called Derek LANCASTER actually play for MORECAMBE??

AND Jason Scotland plays for Trinidad and Tobago.

There's also Ryan France, an Englishman playing for Hull City

There's a Martinique international called Gael Germany

Who can forget West Ham legend, and Englishman, Pat Holland?

There's Petr Cech, who is Czech!
