PRESTON NORTH END

many of you will be old north enders. i lived in lancaster for 4 years in the mid 90s-when leighton james was the manager and when big jim harvey took over. most dolly blues supported both city and north end but i don't think that was the case with the shrimps. do you regard us as friendly cousins or just rivals as in the same way as blackpool or carlisle?

You are just another football club.

Preston mean no more or less to me than Swindon, Leyton Orient, Livingstone, Spartak Moscow or anyone else.

I think it'll be a mixed reception for PNE , I personally have a soft spot for Preston , my Dad & his Dad supported them through thick and thin. The first match [proper] for me was Deepdale. I can still vaguely remember going near on 50 yrs ago - stamping on the wooden terracing. I've been to a few games - met the great Sir Tom at Hillsborough [Sheff Weds] away season before last I think. A genuinely great guy -PNE won 3-1 I think.

But we had a cracking night at yours last season when we turned you over 2-1 ; and I didn't feel there was any animosity towards PNE, there wasn't a right lot of you there to be honest !
Generally speaking Morecambe don't like Bradford City & Accrington Stanley.

Indeed, Carnforth Cricket Club and PNE have an intense, mutual emnity for another. Who can forget the day that Tom Finney was denied a century for being offside.

Seriously, what reason do Morecambe have for not liking Bradford other than the fact they tried signing one of our players?

Seriously.. I'm not too sure Lancashire / Yorkshire maybe spices it up a bit ? I personally met some great people at there place last season - really nice. Who knows how / why these rivalries develop - why Accy Stan ??

The difference is though that Bradford fans won't care a bit about us. We are nothing to them.

Morecambe fans trying to start up a rivaly with Bradford is like Harrogate Town trying to start one with us.

I think allot depends how far back you go supporting a team.

I, personally started supporting Morecambe in the September of the last season before the conference. At that time we had a good relationship with Accy Stan, indeed, days when we were already setting off for our game, to be called off, we went to watch Accy. They reciprocated that, and we have remained friendly since.
The youngsters don't have those memories and believe that because they are our closest rivals in this league that they should not get along. :?

The thing with Bradford is probably just the arrogance of some of their fans that come on here. When we visited them last season, they were exceptionally hospitable.

Great curry house too ;)

If anybody has attempted to start a rivalry it's Bradford. They can't leave us alone ffs.

I personally can't stand Preston having gone to school with mates who support them. I was sick to death of the "Why do you support shitty Morecambe" and when we drew them in the cup them I was over the moon. Whenever we speak I can't help myself but mention the fact we won . I wouldn't regard us as rivals though, we haven't played them enough. Yet on the other hand, I've worked with Accy fans and they're a decent lot, that's more of a friendly rivalry IMO. It just shows rivalries can start when people give your team stick for no reason, which is why I have a personal vendetta with PNE and Bradford.

It always seems a bit more interesting when you play a north west team rather than a team from the south or midlands, but that doesn't make you rivals, just another team from the North.

It takes a number of years in the same league playing each other, or a bit a of history, bad feeling for a real rivalry to develop.

I neither like nor dislike PNE. They're not just another club to me though. they are a club with real history and anyone who claims to be a football supporter has to respect that. Their supporters have never come across as being up their arses and have always been freindly when I've met them.
Bradford on the other hand, crikey, if they put as much effort into supporting their team as they do on this forum now and then perhaps the team wouldn't be as s hit as they are these days....

I used to follow the Donkey Lashers so PNE are top of my "Hope the've lost" list. However this is my 10th season watching Morecambe (Testimonial Year) so the hatred isn't as powerful as it used to be. I,ll also be putting an appearance at Carnforth CC tomorrow, so look out for the Shrimps top and introduce yourself.

I went to Deepdale for Morecambe v Chorley in the Lancashire Junior Cup. I don't think that makes me a PNE fan though?

I quite like to see all the Lancashire teams doing well, with the exception of any Lancashire team that is in our league at the same time. So this season, I want Acci Stanley to finish third from bottom with us anywhere above that. My wife is an arm chair Brunlee fan, so clearly complimenting Blackburn within earshot is never a good idea. I will admit for a while, her indoctrination led to me beginning to develop an irrational dislike for them but I've over come that, although if Blackbum drew Preston/Blackpool/Burnley/Accrington/Lancaster*/Southport**/Barrow*** in the FA Cup, I'd want them to lose

* Okay, perhaps not Lancaster
** Yes, I know
*** Look, I've already said, I know, all right?

My Dad used to take me to Deepdale occasionally as a kid and I worked in Preston for quite a while so I have a soft spot for them.

I always like to see them do well. At least they can say they are founder members of the Football League. Accrington Stanley can't say that (even though they do!)

I thought the PNE team was the worst i saw last year...and with my lot thats saying something ;) . I much prefer morecambe who actually have four sides to their ground....come to think of it, is this some obscure lancs tradition the three sided ground ???
