Christie the Cat on Facebook

Postby Keith » Sat Nov 01, 2008 8:42 pm

Got a message from Christie the Cat on Facebook. I'm not very good with Facebook. So when I clicked on the message it said that it was a malicious web site and encouraged me not to follow the link.

So was it the Cat or is Facebook a target for malicious messages?

I've received a couple of messages from friends and has turned out they never sent it. This sort of thing was rife on myspace with messages such as "free music" etc. seems that it has arrived on facebook too. From what I've noticed there doesn't tend to be a message with it, just a link so my advice would be to ignore it unless you think the URL is OK (i.e. a link from the bbc etc.).

Keith didn't post the actual link, he edited out enough to make it useless. You'd have to put his link into google then google would suggest the correct spelling if you wanted to see the Finnish site. A link can't harm this forum but something like javascript or an activex component could however the forum software tries to automatically stop that sort of thing being posted.

I still get mail with subject lines starting [shrimpsvoices], they're fake as well.

Usual rules apply, if you aren't sure about a message but it comes from a site you are registered with (e.g. bank, facebook, flickr, etc), go to the web site how you would normally through your browser (i.e. don't click the link in the email), login as usual and check for messages.

Example, facebook do send you an email when you get a message but if you login to facebook, the message is in your Inbox and that's where you should be reading it.

I still blame that cookin' fat!

Thanks guys. I know about these types of e-mail in general terms, but I'm still a novice on these 'friends' sites (because I have no friends :( )

And the corrupted link was removed by an over efficient mod. Given that four of us a bloody useless, I'll let you work out who for yourself
