TT races O/T

The first session was red flagged early today because...

a. Cattle escaped from a farm next to the course?
b. Hailstones up on The Mountain?
c. A massive crash spilled oil all over the track?

And the answer is 'B'! Yup, the end of May and hailstones brought an end to the practice session! It's a funny little place that I chose to call home 8-)

It's starting tomorrow apparently!

And McGuinness is all warmed up already!

But I tuned into the coverage a couple of years ago because I was interested in McGuinness and think he's a great ambassador for Morecambe.

And I was hooked.

Maybe for those 'into' it all, the coverage was a bit 'after the event' but I liked the way they captured the spirit and character of the weeks and treated it as more than just a race.

I wasn't at all into motor-sport until I moved here. First time I saw a bike fly down Bray Hill and I was in awe, the skill, bravery, speed & noise were a potent mix. By the time I'd experienced the atmosphere on the Island, I was in love! Tens of thousands of Brits, Irish, French, German & Italian fans all getting drunk together without the slightest hint of trouble. I couldn't help but think that many football fans getting drunk in the same area would have ended in tears. Especially as things were twenty+ years ago.

I'm not actually a Guy Martin fan, I'm not convinced he's actually a genuine 'down to earth bloke' as he makes out. But he is good for the sport.

And he's certainly got balls to be doing this...

I would credit the last three photos if I knew who to credit them to. They were found in three different places with no credits attached to any of them. They aren't mine.

Certainly worth a watch chaps.
Even if you only have a minor interest in either the TT or Guy Martin.

Very sad. They crashed at one of my regular photo spots. It looks like an earlier side car had dumped oil. The crash was at a jump on a flat out section. The driver was 67 yrs old and had been competing since the 1960's. The passenger was in his late 50's, so a very safe, experienced pair. Some things you can't legislate for.

I was in the Island until last night. I competed against Bill Currie back in the 70's. Like all the other sidecar crews he was a great guy. He will be sadly missed by all his friends and family.

RIP Bill and Kevin (Bills passenger)

ITV4 coverage is excellent
liked the yorkie mechanic explaining the three types of bike the costs and the colour codes for each one
the increase in cost on the superbike just to get 2/3mph more amazing!!!
look forward to more highlights!!!
weather is warming up too

Never been either. We are on a day trip tomorrow, 3.00am ferry from Heysham. Forecast looks good, hopefully a smooth crossing and a cracking day

I've been here 2 days now, the weather is absolutely scorching :D long may it continue.

I've had 3 attempts at a lap so far and each time the mountain section has been closed due to accidents :(

The better half is joining me tonight so that'll curtail my riding (bike) for a few days ;)

C'mon McPint!!!!!!!!!

Congratulations to John McGuinness on win number 16!

He's just won the Superbike race by over a minute. Bruce Anstey and Guy Martin dropped out pretty much guaranteeing the win :)

Went to see TT3D Closer to the Edge, the 3D film that is widely being tipped for an Oscar Nomination (best documentary film).

Here's Freez with his new bestest mate, Richard De Aragues... director of said film.

Image
Charlie Boorman was his mate too.

Oh, and McGuinness won some race too.

Bloke in background, waving his arm is Freez. What the photo can't portray was the way he was shouting "Charlie... Charlie! CHARLIE!!! here mate... nah, he couldn't hear me over the engine noise..."
