Team captain, Next season

Team captain, Next season

Postby Loyalsupporter » Sat May 14, 2011 12:51 pm

Out of our current squad, who would you like to be our captain next season ?

me personally, I would like it to be Craig Stanley

if not, then please let it be any other outfield player, Let Baz concerntrate on controlling the back four.

I think I'd prefer Drummond. He's got plenty of experience as captain, and like you say it'll let Baz concentrate on his duties at the back.

Can't see Parrish making a great captain. It would be another case of making your best player captain to keep him happy al-a Barry Roache.

Stanley would be a good choice if persuaded to stay. Otherwise I would look to bring in a natural leader over the summer to lead from the back four or centre midfield.

Parrish needs bringing out of his shell before being made captain. Despite his quality he always looks nervous on the pitch. He needs to realise how good he is and become a leader on the pitch.

I hope Stanners is now going to stay but I'm not sure his temperament makes him a natural leader. McCready or Drummie for me.

McCready.

Controls well, is vocal and organises and fnally found a club that wants him and plays him.

Will Haining for me if he stays, been to watch a few ressie games and he is quite vocal.A good defender that fell out with Sammy but who knows he always gave 100% when playing for jimbo in the reserves. Not long ago Sammy said he was one of the best defenders in league 2.

But how many games would he actually be captain? Too many injuries for me.

Drummie or Chris McCready for me.

No disrespect to Barry, as he did a great job last season in difficult circumstances, but a captain (for me, personally) should be in the middle.

We need to move on from Stewart Drummond. Sorry, but if he's kept on he'll be no more than a useful squad player providing an old experienced head in the dressing room.

Will Haining also would get my vote on this. Ideally placed in the defensive role, would do a great job for us.

Already been a captain during his days at Boundary Park, Oldham. And, back in 2008, St Mirren fans were pushing for him to be made captain up there too.

Will would get my vote if we were confident that he was fit to play most of the season. So far, I'm not convinced. I always prefer an outfield player as a captain. How can a keeper bollock/encourage a centre forward from that distance? McCready will be vocal. Drummie, if the expectation is that he will play regularly has the respect etc required. That said,it has an advantage with Drummie NOT being the captain even as a regular player, simply because you develop a culture of 'captains all over the pitch'.

So that brings me back to McCready or Haining.

McCready without a doubt. Very commanding. Build the team around him and Parrish.

I'd like it to be Stanley if he comes back, or maybe McCready. I don't think Barry Roche is much use being captian as he if not moving around the field.

Out of the players we have now, Barry Roche is the leading contender for me, I can't see anyone else that really stands out as a leader at the moment. I'm not a fan of having goalkeepers as captains but he's certainly led by example this season. Chris McCready doesn't seem like a bad shout though.

I'd love to see Stanners playing for Morecambe next season as he's a useful player but I don't think that I would like him as captain. It seems that he can be a bit of a divisive character both on and off the pitch, he's a windup merchant on the pitch and looks like he loses his head at times and you don't need your captain causing those problems.

captains job, responsibility, could remove the things you feel let him down, and make him a better player, I just hope we get to keep him.

Scotty? As in Paul Scott who was out for the majority of the season injured? Did he even make 10 appearances? TBH I think it is in the balance for him to firstly get back to match fitness, and secondly make a telling contribution on a consistent basis given the length of his lay-off and the age of the player. To be captain, you need to be playing (hence why Bentley lost the band, rightly or most definitely wrongly).

Stanley is a decent player that with the right players alongside him can complement a side (as proved at Torquay), but I don't think he is captain material whatsoever. I hope he stays, but not as captain.

Will Haining is a proven leader, but might not be the right captain for the current crop and possibly wouldn't have the whole squad behind his appointment.

I'd give McCready a go; always been impressed by his attitude.

It'll be interesting to see who Jim brings in. We have lost a lot of vocal players in the first team over the last couple of seasons.
