The press release says that Jim has been appointed as manager as opposed to player manager.

Does this mean he's now retired as a player or is it simply an oversight on the press release?

I think he may re-register as a player just in case but not play unless he absolutely has to. I saw Saturday as his farewell in a playing capacity.

I've said what I think about appointing Jim but I was particularly interested to read Peter's comment "During my discussions with Jim earlier this week I was very impressed with his vision for the development of the club."

Sounds like he's done what I thought and addressed any doubts the board may have had about his inexperience, contacts etc and persuaded them, by the force of his ambition and his strategy for the future, that he can bring much more than just the passion and commitment we know he has in spades (but which, alone, isn't enough).

I'd have been happy with Graham Alexander with Jim as assistant - but if he hasn't leapt at the chance (if he was approached) then his heart's not fully in it and we know we don't have any of that concern with Jimbo.

Congratulations big fella - Sammy is a very hard act to follow but I'm sure your shoulders are big enough for the job!

agreed , if Alexander wasnt going to grab the opportunity of being manager of an ambitious football league club with both hands then the board had to give it to someone who would.

It will be interesting to see his released list.

I hope this means Stanners is staying, we need an energetic midfielder like him.

They say 'old men don't cry'..well this sad old man shed a tear or two when I read that Jimbo had got the job.

I'm absolutely made up for the guy.

No doubt he'll make the odd mistake but there will be nothing other than 100% backing from myself and I'm sure the vast majority of fans.

It's a gamble on the part of the Board and a lot will hinge on who his backroom staff are, but with our support Jimbo will deliver.

Congrats Jimbo and that recent conversation we had about taking over has come true.
