Think about what an XI means...normally players who are lacking match fitness and will play for Man Utd quite rarely through out the season...Micheal Owen? Gabriel Obertan? If you are going to see stars, you never know, the next Lionel Messi could be in that XI and YOU could of been to see him.

Just think 15-20 years ago a Utd x1 would have had Ryan, Paul, David, Phill, Gary. And you know who they are using there 1st name's. Not a Utd fan and away in Skeggy that week so wont be there, but would be if I could, but after last years Day return can't push my luck this year

This actually happened. Can't remember why but it could have been a Lancashire cup game? (sure somebody will correct me!)

Main draw that game was Lee Sharpe who was making a comeback from injury. However i'm pretty sure one or both the Nevilles played plus Scholes who was a very scrawny ginger kid but looked class!

Derogatory to Man Utd? Surely they would prefer us not to advertise it as a first team fixture as it's obvious it won't be. Also, I would not like to piss off local day trippers (potential fans) by advertising it as the main team coming to town and taking their money when we know it won't be.

Actually I've had a thought, why don't we get the Real Hustle down to do an episode on us?

When the Mighty Shrimps win,
will you say
'we beat Manchester United (but it wasn't the real Manchester United, no, they were in the USA, it was an X1, comprised of has-beens/youngsters/chaps lacking match fitness etc. etc. etc.)'

or stop speaking after the first 8 syllables?

As previously stated their first team will be in USA or where ever on tour? So I am presuming the players that get left behind and the youngsters will be filling in for this game.

You never know though, they may leave certain injury prone players off the tour and they will be able to play in this game.

I will wait in Mcdonalds to try and see Michael Owen.

As there is no clashing game this is a first team fixture, who they choose to pick in that first team is their perogative, as you dont have to register a 'squad' for pre season.

To advocate the club advertising such a fixture as anything less than Manchester United is both derogatory to Manchester United for offering us this opportunity and commercial suicide.

So Neil's lying when he says it's Manchester United XI?

Excellent news.

Personally I'd prefer to see us in a competitive match against the stars of tomorrow (irrespective of age) rather than a lack lustre non event with orders NOT to tackle their so called betters.

Having already seen a match involving a Man Utd XI, you're going to be sorely disappointed.

I think they do some things well. I think they do some things very badly. I think I'm well within my rights to be disappointed with a reserve team match being built up as something really special.

I can appreciate what the club does without needing to post sycophantic arselicking comments about our soooper dooper directors though.

You're a persistant negative sod about McIlroy, so you'll forgive me at ignoring your righteous idnignation over my negiativity towards this fixture.

Keep it up though, and maybe I'll flounce off in a puff of prima donna smoke and never ever come back (for a few weeks).

Agreed, it also gives us a chance to see our own revamped squad. Presumably we will have a complete new team for next season :o

So anyway, are we going to have to MBW Stand segregated into one side for Man Utd supporting Morecambe fans, the other side for Liverpool supporting Morecambe fans, and the middle for everyone else.

It's a great game for the club and will get a decent gate.

No team the size of Man Utd would ever send a first team to Morecambe even if they were not on tour they would still have sent the reserve squad. You never know though there might be one or two names in there.
